"No, she was lovely."
"Excellent!" Hexal replies. "You should join her tomorrow night."
I look at the Zathurian male who had escorted the dancer. He smiles, then bows, and exits the room.
"Vekor," Hexal calls out to someone else.
Another Zathurian comes down from the platform above and begins to dance.
This one is younger than the first. She has the same beauty as the previous girl, her eyes shining bright with excitement."Perhaps you prefer this one, my king."
"No, I do not. It would be best if we stopped having dance performances."
Hexal nods. "I understand, my king. You are wise."
I watch the two dancers leave. I think about Emma and how I miss her. I'd give anything to hold her. To feel her soft skin against mine.
"My king, what are you thinking?"
I turn to see Torr standing behind me. "You were gone for a while."
"I was thinking about Emma."
Torr looks thoughtful. "It is good to be home, isn't it?"
"Yes, very much so."
We walk up to the platform and sit down. I look at Torr. "How did you find the Zathurians? Did you like them?"
"They're different from humans, but their hearts are pure. However, no other female can replace my human, my Emma," I sigh.
"I am sorry to hear that. Perhaps you should find another female to be your mate. The Zathurians seem like a good choice if you ask me." Torr pours another glass of the delicious drink.
I shake my head. "No, there is no one else for me."
"What makes you say that?"
I shrug. "Emma was the only female for me. She was everything to me. Our bond is strong, and she was my heart. There is no one else."
Torr takes a sip of the drink. "How does it taste?"
"It's amazing. I could drink it all day."
Torr laughs. "I know you could, but you should pace yourself."
I smile. "I will."
* * *
The next night,I'm sitting in the audience watching the Zathurians perform. I take a deep breath and relax, enjoying the show. Maybe Torr is right... maybe this is what I need... another female.
One of the Zathurian females comes onto the stage. She moves most beautifully. Her movements are graceful and fluid. Her body seems to move without any effort. I watch as she twirls around the room and stops before me. I smile at her.
"My king, I have been assigned to you. May I please dance for you?"
"Of course."
She steps off the stage and walks toward me. As she passes me, I notice the smell of flowers on her body. It's a sweet scent.
