His eyebrows raise skeptically. "Nope."

I shake my head. "If Anil'ha isn't bringing Emma to me, then I'm gonna have a chat with the fucker. There must be something he knows that makes him keep her from me. So, it won't hurt to interrogate him first."

"Alright, fine. Whatever you say. Just promise me one thing."

"Anything," I tell him.

"Promise me that once you've questioned him, you'll leave him alive so we can torture information out of him later," he demands.

I roll my eyes. "Fine, whatever."

After a while, I decide to take Torr's advice. I walk outside and spot Anil'ha standing near the gate. He looks over his shoulder and sees me coming toward him.

"Dhakar, I hope you slept well," he tells me.

"Fuck you! I want to see Emma," I shout at him.

"She will come later," he replies calmly.

"Where is she?!" I demand angrily. "Tell me or…" I hesitate before finishing my sentence. "…or what?"

Anil'ha smirks. "Don't worry about Emma. She's safe and happy."

"Bullshit! Why wouldn't she be here?! Is there another reason for keeping her away from me?"

He shakes his head. "No, Dhakar. There is no other reason. Now please, don't make things difficult for everyone. We need you to stay calm until Emma arrives. Please trust us."

"Trust you? Ha! Don't make me laugh. How could I ever possibly trust any of you bastards?" I scoff sarcastically.

He frowns. "We only wanted to help you get better. And you know how much we love our mates. They're everything to us."

"Really?" I snort. "So, let me guess—the reason you kept Emma from me had nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that she's not yours!"

He stares at me for a moment, then turns around and walks off.

I glare after him, seething with anger. It takes me some time to calm myself down and regain control of my emotions. Finally, I return inside and find Torr sitting next to an unconscious man.

"Who is this guy?" I ask curiously as I approach them both.

"This is one of the guards who tried to stop us earlier today. He saw us leaving and followed us. When we came back, he attacked me," Torr explains quietly.

"Why didn't you call for backup?" I question him.

"Because I knew if anyone else showed up, they'd probably attack too. I just needed to scare him enough so he would go away," he answers defensively.

I stare at him, surprised. "Well done!" I compliment him with a smile.

"Thanks," he says dryly.

I sit down beside the guard and gently touch his cheek. He stirs slightly, groaning softly. Then he opens his eyes and blinks several times.

"What happened…?" he asks me.

"Just rest and relax. You'll feel better soon," I reply reassuringly.
