Jean Luc entered right behind her, and he was unshaven. Whoa! Sawyer sent Madison a knowing look since he’d just joked about Thea’s sex life.

“Thea, everything’s fine.” Kyle walked over and hugged her quickly. “Sorry to scare you. We have a sudden appointment, that’s all. It happened last minute. Now, we need to go.”

“Where’s Dean?” Thea asked, looking around.

“He didn’t come home last night,” Sawyer informed her.

“Oh my gosh! Is he okay? What happened after we left here? Did you guys fight?”

Sawyer nearly choked from laughter. “Really, Thea? You can’t imagine why Dean stayed out?”

“Ah,chérie,” Jean Luc commented, running his hand down her hair.

“What?” She looked at them with confusion, proving she really was as sweet as they all thought. “I don’t get it.”

Madison’s mouth twitched. “He’s likely still with his dream girl, Thea, doing what two people do when they’re hot for each other.”

Sawyer’s gaze swung to Kyle, who went rigid at that comment. He decided to help a brother out. “All right, let’s go, everyone. Kyle seems impatient, and I’m sure it’s for a good reason.”

“It had better be!” Brooke muttered over a bite of the croissant she’d snagged from the bread basket.

They followed Kyle out of the restaurant, and he called over his shoulder, “It’s only a few blocks, so let’s walk.”

That worked for Sawyer. He could finish off one of Thea’s croissants on the way. He wasn’t the only one, and soon a trio of them were attacking the croissants—him, Brooke, and Madison. Clearly, Kyle was too keyed up to eat, and Thea and Jean Luc had already had some baked goods. God, he needed to stop smirking at his inside jokes.

Ahead, Kyle increased his pace to kiss Parisian style an elegant blond woman in her forties in a tailored cream suit. After which he pocketed something in his coat.

“Chanel,” Brooke whispered, nodding to the woman. “Last collection.”

“Like I care,” Madison said, wiping her mouth.

That made Sawyer take a closer look at her. Was she feeling the same way as Kyle after the kiss? Madisonwouldbe the jealous type, right?

“Anyone know her?” he asked. “Kyle isn’t secretly seeing anyone, is he?”

Madison went rigid beside him before turning her body so he couldn’t see her face. Well, well. Action, reaction. Life really was a bitch sometimes. Falling for a friend was a maze of complications for the heart.

“I have seen her walking in the neighborhood,” Jean Luc answered, “but I do not know her.”

“Well, let’s find out,” Madison said, speeding ahead. The rest of them were right behind her.

She reached them first, and Kyle introduced the beautiful woman as Ambre Brillard. Nothing more.

“Thanks for the rush, Ambre,” Kyle murmured in French, kissing her cheek yet again.

Sawyer caught Madison and Brooke sharing a look, the former’s mouth a tight line.

“Well,” Ambre said, giving them all a polite smile, “I will leave you, then.Bonne journée.”

After she walked off, Kyle started forward toward a large set of double doors with Thea and Jean Luc following him.

“Tell me she’s not his rebound girl,” Madison said in a harsh whisper to him and Brooke when they didn’t immediately follow. “I thought he would have—”

“She’s not,” Sawyer said impulsively and then found his mouth slamming shut when they both turned and stared at him. “Hey! I knew about Dean, didn’t I? I’d…ah…would know about Kyle having apetite amie.”

Brooke nodded while Madison chewed her lip. Had she believed him?

Kyle swung around after entering a code. “No loafing, you guys,” he called to them. “Hurry up!”
