“You’re the man of the hour,” Carrick said, clapping him on the back. “Everyone is going to want to buy you a pint.”
They would indeed. “I look forward to it.”
And so it went. The entire village congratulated him time and time again at the Brazen Donkey. When he actually took a moment to sit, Megan sat on one side of him, grinning from ear to ear, and Ollie on the other, laughing at the attention from his dear friends.
The Lucky Charms pulled off a lively dance number to “I’ll Be There For You,” which Gavin followed up with “The Ballad of the Irish Horse” by the Chieftains. Everyone sang along, his friends’ voices mingling for song after song.
A man couldn’t have passed a better day or night, and when Bets announced that the fair had brought in over three thousand euros for the Sorcha Fitzgerald Arts Center, he raised his glass with everyone and let out a cheer and kissed Megan right on the mouth. Later he would tell her he was also donating his five hundred euros in prize money.
All told, they had raised a proper sum for the arts center. They likely would have to raise more, but all was well tonight. Megan had sold most of her pottery. He’d raced his first race and won with a horse he’d healed. Tomorrow he and his father would cover Legend.
His dreams would finally come true.
