Tyler:Like what?
Meg:You signed up for the class field trip.
Tyler:I love pumpkin farms.
Tyler:Are you going to be there too?
Meg:I am the teacher.
Excellent.
My evil plan is working.
Maybe Iamthe Lord of Darkness.
Tyler:By the way, where’s my love songs playlist?
Meg:Do you plan on listening to it on the field trip?
I smile. I forgot how fun it was to flirt.
Tyler:No, I plan on blasting it when I’m laying sod with ten other manly guys.
Meg:Ha! I’m sure they’d love that.
Meg:And just so we’re clear, I’m not making you a love song playlist.
Tyler:But you want to.
Meg:I never said that.
Tyler:You didn’t have to.
Tyler:I found your Etsy shop.
Meg:You found my Etsy shop!?!
Tyler:I was looking for yams, but I didn’t find anything. I had to settle for home décor, and then I just stumbled across your shop. Such a coincidence.
Meg:Did you find a Gather sign?
Tyler:Unfortunately, no. I might have to purchase one from one of your competitors.
Tyler:Your designs are incredible, by the way. You should be really proud.
She doesn’t send an immediate response, and I start to panic. I shouldn’t have told her about Etsy. I freaked her out. I exit out of our text thread so that it doesn’t look like I’m just waiting for her to respond, even though that’s exactly what I’m doing.
I stand up from the kitchen table. I clear a few dishes away. Glance at the clock. It’s been a few minutes. She’s not going to respond.
It’s time to bow out gracefully.
Tyler:Thanks for the help with the paper. We’ll surprise you with our choice.
I set my phone down and lean against the counter, letting out a dramatic exhale.
Learning to date again is going to kill me.
