The wedding guests around us gasp.

I feel like I’m in the middle of a movie.

“You’re such a prick,” Tyler says, leaning over him. “You don't deserve Meg.”

I’m inDirty Dancing. Tyler is Patrick Swayze. This is his “Nobody puts Baby in the corner” moment, and as I watch it play out in real life, it's not as romantic as the movie makes it seem. It's stressful.

I grab Tyler by the arm and pull him away from Zak.

“What are you doing?” I ask through clenched teeth.

“What amIdoing?” Tyler huffs. “You just told me you loved me when you’re back together with Zak.”

“I’m not back together with Zak. I have no idea why he said that or why he’s even here.”

Tyler turns his head from me, and I step to the side so I can still look into his blue eyes.

“I didn’t invite him today.”

Tyler doesn’t say anything, just shakes his head.

I pull on his arm. “You have to believe me.”

Finally his gaze shifts to mine. “I don’t know what to believe anymore.”

There’s another commotion, and the crowd of guests gasps—again.

Tyler and I turn to see the small, round cake table tip over, sending the three-tiered chocolate cake to the ground.

Krew stands there, looking guilty.

His index finger shows the traces of chocolate where he went for a lick of the frosting when no one was looking.

Tyler rushes to him, but Krew bolts.

“I didn’t do it!” He runs away from the table, stepping in the cake as he goes, smashing it into the grass. A huge piece of it sticks to the bottom of his shoes, leaving a trail of thick chocolate frosting behind him.

Tyler catches up to Krew and grabs him around his waist, swinging his frosting-filled shoes out in front of him.

“Krew, look what you’ve done.”

“It was an accident.”

“I know it was an accident, but you still ruined their wedding cake. Now nobody can have any.”

“Tyler, it’s not a big deal,” my dad says. “We don’t mind.”

He looks at the smashed cake. “I should help you clean up.”

“We’ve got it,” Brooke says, coming to the rescue with a dustpan and a shovel.

“I think I’m just going to leave, then.” Tyler’s eyes are sad as he looks at my dad. “I’m sorry we ruined your wedding.”

I take a few steps after him. “I’ll come with you.”

Tyler turns to me. He still has Krew’s wiggling body in between his arms. “Not now, Meg.” He turns to go. “I just can’t right now.”

And I’m left standing there, wondering if I really can still fix Tyler and me.
