“I just thought you should know that I could kiss you all night, and even though I want to, I’m going to stop because…” I groan, raking my hands through my hair. “Because I’m an idiot who apparently has boundaries.”

 “I feel the same way.”

“Great.” I release a dramatic breath. “No more kissing?”

 “No more kissing.”

I raise a brow. “At least for tonight.”

She laughs, and I grab her hand, playing with the tips of her fingers.

“I really like you,” I say.

“I really like you too. But I also like my job, and I don’t want to lose it. Especially when…” Her eyes drop.

“When there's no guarantee that things will work out between us?”

Her blue eyes pull to mine. “Exactly.”

My hands lock with hers. “I can’t promise anything, but I feel like we have a lot of potential, and it would kill me if we didn’t try.”

“But if we try, I’ll get fired.”

“What if we talk to Diane together? We could explain that we’d like to date each other.”

Meg straightens and shakes her head. “No. She wouldn’t understand. I’d be fired if she knew we kissed or that we want to date. She can’t know anything about what’s happened between us.”

“What if we dated for a while and didn’t tell her or anyone about it? See where this leads before we mess everything up with your job.”

“So you want to sneak around?”

“That’s not how I would word it.”

 “But that’s what you’re suggesting.”

 “I’m suggesting we giveusa chance.”

Meg looks to the side, like she’s thinking over my words. I don’t want to pressure her, but I really want this.

Her head flips to me. “Nobody would know?”

 “I won’t tell anyone if you don’t.”

“What about Krew? Won’t he be suspicious?”

“He’s seven,” I say flatly. “I’m sure we can figure something out to tell him.”

 “We’d have to be careful.”

 “I can be careful.”

“Okay.” She smiles. “Let’s date in secret.”

 This feels big.

“I feel like we should kiss again. You know, to solidify things.”

Meg shakes her head. “You said no more kissing tonight.”
