“I think we're ready to head out.”

“Are you sure this isn't a problem? I can call my dad to come pick me up if it is.”

“I’m already out. It’s no trouble at all.”

 “Okay.”

“Dad?” Krew asks from the back seat. “Can I keep playing on your iPad?”

“Just for the car ride. When we get home you’ll need to take a break from screens.” I turn the stereo up as I pull out of the parking lot. Meg’s love songs fill the car.

 “Is this my playlist?”

 “Of course.”

She shakes her head. “You don’t really listen to it, do you?”

 “Yeah, I do.”

 “No, you don’t. You’re lying.”

I begin singing the song playing. Something about getting lost in your eyes.

“Debbie Gibson? You know the words toLost in Your Eyes,by Debbie Gibson?”

“When you sent me the playlist, did you think I wasn’t going to listen to it?”

 “I assumed you wouldn’t.”

I turn my head back to the road. “I know every song.”

“No, you don’t.” I can hear the disbelief in her voice.

 “Try me.” I smirk.

She switches the song to the next.

 “Almost Paradise,” I say flatly.

 She switches it again.

“Madonna,Crazy for You.” I flip my head to her. “I already knew that song before your playlist.”

“That’s an easy one.” She hits the button, changing the music again.

Instrumental music plays before the words start. “Take My Breath Away.” My lips curve upward as I eye her. “This song’s kind of hot.”

Meg’s hands cover her face like she’s embarrassed.

 “What? Haven’t you seenTop Gun?”

“I can’t even talk about this with you.” She’s bright red now, and it’s pretty darn cute.

“You can’t talk about how hot this song is, or how I’ve memorized all the songs on your playlist?”

 She shakes her head. “Both.”

“He listens to these songs all the time,” Krew says from the back seat. “Why don’t you believe him?”
