“Have you talked to Meg?”

 Is this a trick question?

Paul breaks my silence. “I know she’s the woman you’ve been talking about and that you two are dating.”

 “You do?”

“Ever since game night when Tessa saw you two in the kitchen, I think my whole family knew.”

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. Are you mad?”

“Don’t worry about it. I understand why you didn’t tell me, and I’m not upset.”

 “Good.”

“So have you talked to her?” There’s an anxiousness in his voice that I don’t understand.

“I saw her this morning, but I haven’t talked to her since.”

“I asked Anna Mae to marry me last night, and she accepted.”

 “Paul, that’s great.”

“It is for me, but you know Meg. She’s taking it really hard. She won’t speak to any of us. I was wondering if you could go over there and talk to her.”

I do know Meg, and I know that this news was probably devastating.

“Sure. I’ll see what I can do.”

I need to talk to her about Diane anyway.

 “And, Tyler?”

 “Yeah?”

“There isn’t a better man than you for my daughter. I’d be honored to have you as part of our family.”

Emotion takes over. I try to clear my throat to save myself a little bit of embarrassment. “Thanks, Paul. That means a lot.”

We hang up, and I immediately text Logan to see if he can watch Krew so I can go over to Meg’s apartment.

I have a feeling that things between us just got a lot more complicated.

 MEG

My family hasbeen calling and texting all day, and I’ve politely told them to leave me alone.

Actually, if you asked them, they’d say I wasn’t so polite.

I’m bitter, and I can’t understand why everyone else is okay withthis—okay with stupid Anna Mae. I’m a sore loser, and I don’t want to talk to any of them.

 Traitors.

 That’s what they all are.

Or maybe I’m the traitor—the one betraying my family for selfish reasons.
