“None of that matters,” Dannyn said. Time was running out. “If we don’t do something, Marx will be executed in the square in a few minutes.”
Renna gasped. “We have an emergency! We have to go.”
“What? Are you having the baby right now?” Ezra asked, clutching her arm.
“No.” She swatted him away. “Seran is in love with Marx!”
“I knew it.” Dannyn huffed. “And Marx is in love with her.”
“How do you know?” Ezra asked his wife.
“Because Seran told me.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked.
“Not everything involves you,” Renna said. She looked around the group. “Seran will be destroyed all over again if Marx is executed.”
“Exactly!” Dannyn raised her voice. “Thank you for having a clue about the gravity of the situation.”
Ezra threw his arm out. “But King Bryant said—”
“You can’t trust anything King Bryant says right now,” Myka interjected. “He’s blinded by his anger.”
“The vote’s already been done,” Drake said. “Justice has been served.”
“If we want justice for Seran, then we can’t let the man she loves die,” Renna said.
“What are we waiting for?” Dannyn asked. “Let’s go get Seran so she can plead with her father and stop the execution.”
“She’s in bed,” Renna said. “But I can get her.”
“How are you going to get past the guards?” Drake asked.
Renna shrugged. “I lived at The Government Center for four years. The guards aren’t a problem.”
“Drake and I can go can find King Bryant and tell him I want to change my vote,” Ezra said. He looked at Renna. “This is one bullet Icanstop.”
Renna grabbed Myka and Dannyn’s hands. “Let’s go.”
A rush of adrenaline swept through Dannyn. These women were exactly the team she needed.

Seran
The door to Seran’s room flung open, waking her from her sleep.
“Dannyn?” she exclaimed, blinking her eyes. “What are you doing here?”
Princess Dannyn scrambled into the room with Renna and another woman with dark brown hair and blue eyes.
Dannyn scurried to the side of her bed, looking her over. “What areyoudoing here? You’re in pajamas, for heaven’s sake!”
Seran glanced at the blue nightgown she wore then her eyes skipped to Dannyn. “Is Marx here with you?”
Had Marx come for her? It wouldn’t make sense for Dannyn to come all the way to New Hope without her brother. Or maybe her headache was so bad she was hallucinating.
“Is she trying to make me crazy?” Dannyn asked the woman that Seran didn’t recognize.
