‘What about?’ Alanna asked coldly.

‘I was… Can we talk in private?’ Benjamin asked anxiously.

‘No. What do you want, Benjamin?’ Alanna demanded.

Keira was desperate to get away. She had no desire to witness a scene between Alanna and Benjamin, but she was stuck.

‘I was just checking in with you,’ Benjamin said anxiously. ‘So… you’re here now?’

‘That’s your question? Am I where you can see that I am?’ Alanna sneered.

Benjamin was sweating. Keira didn’t mind that. She’d never taken to him.

‘So, I guess I wanted to ask…’ He looked back and forth between Alanna and Keira. ‘Is this…’

Benjamin’s sentence trailed off, but Keira didn’t need the end of it. The idiot thought she and Alanna were making the beast with two backs. Keira began to laugh. ‘Wait, no, Benjamin, it’s—’

Before she could explain, the window behind her exploded.

‘What the shit!’ Alanna screamed. Keira looked at the hole in her window and followed the glass spray to a small box sitting on the rug. It was an Amazon box. She opened it. There was just a rock inside.

Keira drifted to the window and looked down to see someone looking up at her window from the street. ‘You bitch!’ screamed a girl with balayage and big hoop earrings.

Keira squinted at her. ‘Do I know you?’

‘It’s Kelly! I deliver your Amazon.’

‘Oh. Hi, Kelly,’ Keira asked, confused. ‘Is this a payment issue?’

‘You don’t even remember me? We went out a few months ago, and you never called me!’

‘Ah,’ Keira said. ‘You’ve got a good arm to get that all the way up to the second floor. And how did you even work out that this was my wind—’

‘Fuck you!’ Kelly screamed.

Keira turned to see Alanna and Benjamin had joined her at the window, coming to see what the noise was all about.

‘There she is!’ Kelly yelled.

‘Who, me?’ Alanna asked, worried.

‘Yeah. You know she cheats on you, don’t you? You poor fool!’

Alanna and Keira swapped a look.

‘Did you…’ Keira asked.

Alanna’s mouth quirked. ‘Yeah, I thought—’

‘I FUCKING KNEW IT!’ Benjamin suddenly roared at them.

‘That was right next to my ear,’ Keira complained.

‘I knew you didn’t just move in here for no reason. How long was this going on?!’ Benjamin demanded of Alanna.

‘Benjamin, mate…’ Keira started.

‘Not long,’ Alanna said.
