It was sarcastic, but he didn’t care as he began to inch his way into her.

“Fuck.” His head fell to her shoulder as he slowly sank into her. “After the last three months, and last night, I don’t know how long I’m going to last.” He could hear the defeat in his voice and hated it.

Auraelia lifted his face to hers, and fierce determination filled her gaze. “Daemon, I need you to move. I’ve been wound tight like a top for the last three months, and I need you to fuck me.Hard.”

His smile turned devilish as he looked into those pools of blue and gray. “Your wish is my command, Princess.” Then he drove into her.

Draping one of her legs over his shoulder, he furiously worked her clit as he pounded into her.

He could feel his climax building.

The heaviness in his balls.

The tingling at the base of his spine.

He refused to leave her wanting, so with renewed effort, he doubled down on her pleasure. Swirling and pinching her clit as he watched for the signs he needed before he could let go.

“Play with your breasts, Auraelia.”

Her compliance to his demands was instant. She palmed her delicate globes and twisted her nipples between her thumb and forefinger.

Then like bricks in a line, everything fell into place.

Her breath, the sheen, and then her body locked in around him as her climax ripped her apart and pulled him with her.

Daemon collapsed next to her. The only sounds in the room coming from the birds that chirped outside the window, and their erratic breathing.

“Auraelia–” he whispered when their breaths returned to a semi-normal cadence.

She sighed, then sat up and looked over her shoulder at him. “You have to leave, don’t you?”

It was his turn to sigh now. “Unfortunately, yes. I have to go meet my parents and Yvaine at the dock in the city and arrivewiththem.”

A bewildered look crossed her features, but it didn’t take long for her to realize his meaning. “No one knows you’re here.”

It wasn’t a question, but he nodded anyway.

When a tense silence fell over them, Daemon pulled her back down into his embrace. “I will be back here later today to be formally introduced to your court with my parents. Iwillbe back, Auraelia.”

She didn’t need to say that him leaving right now would hurt. His own heart rebelled against the very idea–but he had to.

They both had to keep up appearances, and they were still no closer to finding a solution to their problems involving the treaty, which meant they couldn’t be seen together in more than a friendly capacity.

Daemon kissed the crown of her head then let her go.

He dressed quickly, and with a kiss on her lips, he let his shadows carry him away.

It was midday by the time his parents arrived in Lyndaria.

The sun was shining, there was nary a cloud in sight, and the light that reflected off the water looked like fallen stars floated on its surface. It was a beautiful day, but Daemon’s mood was immediately soured at the sight of his parents’ ship.

It was larger than the Nevermore. And where his ship was dark and sleek, the Sea Serpent was all light colors and–in his opinion–gaudy.

The hull was stained a medium brown, and its sails were a mixture of sky blue and white, making them blend into the sky on bright days. Accenting the sides of the ship was the unnecessary gold filigree that added to the ostentatious display.

He stood on the docks, arms folded across his chest, as he watched the royal vessel pull into port. The sight of the ship, along with the knowledge of who was aboard, twisted his lips into a scowl.

Only when lines were secure, and the gangplank had been dropped into place, did he peel himself away from the mooring pole and stride over to greet his parents.
