This was part of why Demon had let Gavin break this too her.He had hopes for how things would go after Gavin left, but that would never happen if Demon pissed her off before then.

After breakfast, Ronnie had gone to get dressed for the day. While she’d been gone, Demon had gotten a text letting him know that the prospects watching the house where Jim Bob’s mother lived had spotted him.He wasn’t there but they’d tailed him to where he was staying. They’d wanted instructions on what to do next.

He'd consulted with Gavin, and they’d put together a plan.Gavin had contacted a few local agents he knew, they were going to go pick up Jim Bob, going in as bounty hunters so anyone watching wouldn’t know he was being picked up by the feds.Once they had him in custody, they could try to make a deal.Demon didn’t care what the deal was, as long as they got enough info to shut down the Devils and get Ronnie off the sale block.

“Fine.”She crossed her arms over her chest and continued to glare at Gavin.“You can have two hours. If you’re not back by then, there will be hell to pay.”

“You got it.”Gavin stood and went in the bedroom. They’d told her that Gavin needed to go see their father, and with what they knew so far, it didn’t seem like a good idea for her to go along. He wasn’t going to see their dad, at least not yet.But that was part of what they weren’t telling Ronnie, at least not yet.

“I can’t believe you agreed to this,” she said turning to him.

Demon shrugged.“It’s just for a couple hours. It’s not like I planned to sleep for the next fourteen hours.Besides, with your brother out of the house for a bit, maybe I can kiss you without being interrupted for once?”

He watched as one after another, emotions played across her face. Then and there, he decided that as long as she let him, he’d know what every single one of those expressions meant.

As it was, he identified a couple, curiosity and desire. He could work with those.

Gavin came back into the room, a backpack slung over one shoulder.Demon suspected it contained some kind of gear that would give away what he was really up to, so he didn’t want Ronnie to see it.

“I’ll be back as soon as I can.”He bent over and dropped a peck of a kiss on top of Ronnie’s head where she sat on the end of the sofa, her arms still crossed.“I have to go.After the message this morning, we both know that if I don’t make my appearance, he’ll show up here, and neither of us want that.”

Her expression softened.“You’re right. We don’t want him here.”She seemed to wilt.“I just hate feeling useless, or worse, like a burden.”

“We both know you’re neither of those.”Gavin met Demon’s gaze, and his look seemed to say take care of her.

Demon planned to do that anyway, but he nodded once then went to the door and let himself out.

“What do you want to do first?”Demon asked, rubbing his hands together and grinning.

She looked at him, her brows creased with confusion.

“You’re acting like a kid whose parents have just left them home alone for the first time and you can’t wait to get into everything you’ve been told to stay out of.”

“I can’t say your analogy is wrong, but I don’t think that any kid is thinking about what I’ve got in mind.”He crooked one finger at her.“Come here a minute.”

Therewassomethingtheyweren’t telling her, Ronnie knew. What, she wasn’t yet sure of, but she had no doubt there was something.

“Come here a minute.”Demon crooked one finger at her.

She didn’t move right away but watched him for several seconds instead.

Was she going to let herself be distracted? What was Gavin going to do?Was he even going to see their father?Questions circled in her mind as she let her gaze flick down Demon’s body.

She couldn’t deny, at least to herself, that she wouldn’t mind a chance to kiss him, and possibly more, without the risk of her brother walking in on them.

“Do I need to come over there and get you?”The low rumble of his voice sent heat through her body and moisture pooling between her thighs.

Ronnie tilted her head to one side.“What if I say no?”

“Then everything stops, firecracker.I don’t go where I’m not wanted. Are you saying no?”

Ronnie shook her head and let her arms fall from where she’d crossed them over her boobs while trying to get her brother to see reason. She moved forward, crawling on hands and knees toward where he sat on the far end of the couch from where she’d been. She put as much sway and hip rolling into her movements as she could, considering the short distance.

“Not at all.I’m just getting a feeling for the boundaries.”She reached him and moved upright so she sat on her heels inches away from him.“How far you’re willing to go, if I were to say yes.”Her last words were little more than a whisper, as she leaned close and feathered her lips across his mouth.

“Firecracker, I’m sure you’ll be the one to say when on this.”He hooked an arm around her waist, tugged her into his lap, and captured her mouth in a kiss that made her whimper even as her arms went around his neck to pull him closer.
