TURNER:The truth. You tell Elena the truth.

VILLA:Do you have children, Mr. Warren?

WARREN:No.

VILLA:I suspected as much. Do you have siblings? How about your parents? Are they still alive?

WARREN:They are.

VILLA:And siblings?

WARREN:A brother.

VILLA:Great. So, you understand my dilemma here? I have an almost three-year-old waiting for her daddy to come home, and an entirefamilywaiting for his return. What, Mr. Warren, would you like me to tell them is the reason he is, in fact, not coming home?

WARREN:(sighs) I truly am sorry. I hoped we wouldn’t have to have this conversation, but my hands are tied. I hoped when Sheriff Turner found those articles belonging to your husband, it would help lead us to the truth about what happened. Unfortunately, all it gave us was more questions.

VILLA:The case has gone cold?

WARREN:No. It is now being considered a “Missing Person Presumed Dead” case.

VILLA:Spell it out for me like I’m a toddler, Sergeant. What exactly does that mean?

WARREN:It means we’re in limbo. The case isn’t cold, but it’s not closed, either. If something we deem to be reliable comes in, we will look into it, but until that happens, we won’t be pursuing it any further.

VILLA:Right…And you’d be willing to explain this to the family?

WARREN:Yes.

VILLA:Great. I’ll get them on the phone.

WARREN:Now?

VILLA:You want to do this again?

TURNER:(sighs) Fucking hell.

WARREN:No.

VILLA:Great, I’ll be back in a few minutes.

WARREN:(to Turner) I don’t know how you do it, Beau.

TURNER:What?

WARREN:Deal with her on a daily basis.

TURNER:(laughs) You think that was bad? You should’ve seen her the first day she walked in here.

WARREN:You’re gonna keep an eye on her, right?

TURNER:Of course.

WARREN:I’m worried about her.
