I’m addicted to every molecule that comprises this man. The extent of the damage I’m in is astronomical.

 I’m ruined for life.

“Please, what?” he questions, biting his lower lip seductively. “Use your safe word.”

 “Reeve…”

 “Winona…”

 I pout. “Moth.”

 He chuckles darkly. “Good girl.”

“Do you think we will get to live normal lives?” I ask, settling onto a crate Reeve placed around the fire pit behind the tower.

He clears his throat. “Most people choose one lane, but some of us are meant to walk the fine line between them.”

Big, radiant eyes that can hold the stars find mine.

“So, is that a no?” I chuckle as Reeve places my legs across his thighs and drapes his arm around my shoulders.

“It’s a maybe.” He pauses for a moment. “I don’t know what a normal life is. I never had one, so I don’t know.”

“Do you think he’s down there?” I watch as the flames dance around the bonfire, licking the darkness. “Grandma told me to find him and get answers, but he didn’t kill you. So who is he?”

 “A parasite.”

His short answers show his disinterest. “You don’t want to talk about it, I get it.”

“I just want to enjoy this date with my beautiful wife, who’s deadly in ways that might surprise our enemies.”

“Hey,” I playfully slap his chest. “Do you remember our first date?”

“Of course, I taught you how to ride a motorcycle, and you twisted the throttle so hard that I fell off the bike while you raced ahead, panicking, and I had to run down the street to catch up to you.” A smile spreads across his face as he reminisces. “Best first date ever.”

“Then we went to get ice cream and buy books from a local shop. I told you we should pick one together and read it.”

“Best trauma award... goes... to Winona. Nah, I’m joking. I loved every single one. I mean, reading them was like being with you on a bike—a train wreck, but in the end, it’s the best adventure.”

I give him a side-eye. “Ah, so dramatic. I’m better now. A total badass on a bike.”

“Of course you are, you’re my wife.” He lifts his hand to my chin, gently pressing two fingers before leaning in to kiss me. “I wish I could go back and relive all of our first moments together.”

“Me too. I wouldn’t change a thing.” I close my eyes as our foreheads press against each other.

“There’s no changing what’s meant to be.”

“I know this isn’t over, and I’m sure you have a plan for him, but can we stay here a little longer and enjoy each other?”

“Yeah,” he offers me his hand, and I take it. “Want to dance?”

Our burning gaze meets as he lifts us, lowers me onto his body, caressing my heated curves and enveloping me in his warmth.

“So, will you finally sing for me?” I ask.

“I really don’t want you to hit me with the guitar or throw it into the bonfire.”

“Can you be serious for once?”
