Round nails run beneath my jaw and along the side of my throat. The blood thumping beneath the skin there makes everything more sensitive, and I flex my fingers on her waist.

Tilting my head to the side, I give her the space to do what she wants. “Use your mouth, tongue, and teeth.”

Her lips are slightly swollen when they move to the ridge of my jaw, scraping the shaven skin there before shifting lower. Shit, the soft pressure she’s using is a tease, a fucking test of my will. By the time she places an open-mouthed kiss on my throat, I’m so twisted up I don’t know where to begin to unravel myself.

The first scrape of her teeth against my skin is sharp, a bit more confident. I don’t have to tell her to soothe the nip with her tongue before she’s doing that on her own, leaving a wet mark behind. Suddenly, she’s abandoning my wrist and using both hands to grip my shirt, tugging me closer.

She sucks on the skin beneath my jaw, and a soft noise fills the little space between us. My vision grows tinted as I tug harder on her hair. When that noise grows in volume, pleasure erupting in a way that I know can’t exist in this moment, I release her.

“Millie,” I murmur before taking her hands from my shirt and guiding her backward.

Blue eyes snap to mine, her pupils wide and thick. Pink lingers on her cheeks and nose, leading all the way beneath the neckline of her blouse. Her soft, panted breaths match the pace of mine, until she freezes.

“I’m so sorry!” she squeaks.

Her head shakes quickly, and a mix of bewilderment and embarrassment fills her expression before I’m taking one stepback and letting her slip down from the table. Millie shifts to the side and tucks her hair behind her ears.

“I practically mauled you.”

“You didn’t,” I argue.

Maul is a strong word. It’s the wrong one. A single word isn’t accurate, although it would be easier that way. I’d go withgot lost in the pleasure of a new experiencewith someone willinginstead.

“I’ve never been like that before. I’m usually much more respectful,” she rambles.

“If you want approval to disrespect me, you have it. What happened was respectful. I just don’t want to rush you. This only works if you’re comfortable.”

“Your comfortability matters to me too, Shade. And we didn’t discuss more than using tongue prior. It was just mouth kissing.”

“Talking about every single thing prior to making out with someone isn’t really the norm, princess,” I tease, trying to lighten the mood. “A lot of the time, you play it by ear. It’s alright to be spontaneous once in a while.”

She exhales, staring fiercely at me. “I’ve never been great at that.”

“Well, you did pretty alright just now,” I reply with a wink.

“I did?”

From the pain in my balls right now, I’d say she did too fucking alright.

“Yeah, Millie. You’re a natural.”

The grin that fills her face with a pure, blissful light makes the marks on my throat feel all the more special. She claps her hands in front of her as I lean back on my foot and watch her, chuckling beneath my breath.

Yeah, this woman is dangerous in the worst way.

And I’ve always been attracted to a bit of danger.

MILLIE

“I don’t understand.”

Shelly smiles softly, her green-eyed gaze kind in the same way they were the night I checked in. “The cabin is yours for as long as you need it, Millie.”

“But why? How? If I can’t pay, I shouldn’t get to stay here,” I argue.

There’s another woman wandering around the office tonight, taking in the shelves of camping supplies and sweatshirts with the Shimmer Lake Campground logo stamped on the front. It’s a good logo, bright and rustic. Whoever they hired to design it did a good job. I’ve always been a doodler but haven’t created anything that well thought out before. The way the colours work with the mountain landscape while also pulling in the rustic font is incredible.
