Cali eyes the two of them cautiously before moving to the table and lifting the tablecloth.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” She laughs.
Under the table are a toddler size electric car and a toddler size electric motorcycle.
“We may have had a similar discussion as Rascal and Buster’s conversation last night,” Hollywood tells her.
“So, we decided to get him one of each.” Diesel shrugs. “The car at least has a remote control so someone can control the car until he’s able to do it himself.”
“That’s fuckin’ badass!” Buster exclaims. He pulls them out from under the table to get a better look at them while Caden waddles over to his toys that are still in boxes.
“I’m going to go use the restroom,” I tell Bull. “I’ll be right back.”
“Hurry back.” He gives me a quick kiss and I head inside.
I use the restroom that’s just off the main room. When I walk back out to the main room, there’s an explosion out front.
“What the . . .” A black hood covers my face, but I can still see flecks of light. When I gasp, I inhale something, and my vision goes dark.
Chapter Twenty-Seven
Bull
When Athena goes inside, I find Ratchet.
“Any news?” he asks.
“Not a fuckin’ thing,” I tell him.
“He’s bound to slip up at some point,” Ratchet assures me. “We’ll get that bastard one way or another.”
Kevin and the cartel have been stayin’ low-key since the Fourth of July. So fuckin’ low key we can’t find them anywhere.
“Hopefully, it’s sooner rather than later,” I say on a sigh. I hate keepin’ Athena practically locked up. She hasn’t said anything, but I know she’s missin’ Rusty and her friends at the bar.
Did y’all see what HD got Caden? Those assholes outdid us all,” Ranger complains, causing Ratchet and I to laugh.
Boom!
“What the fuck was that?” Ratchet asks.
“I don’t know. Ratchet grab the guys. Tell the prospects to wait with the women and kids. Ranger, let’s go.” Ranger and I run to the front of the clubhouse, the other guys right behind us. The closer I get to the clubhouse, the stronger the scent of burning fuel and oil becomes. As I round the corner of the building, my eyes fall to a car engulfed in flames.
Smalls, the prospect on front gate duty, is standing a few feet away from the burning car with a fire extinguisher, trying to put it out.
“How the fuck . . .” Ranger starts.
“Go get the fuckin’ hose!” I shout to Ranger and run over to Smalls. “What the fuck happened here?”
“I honestly don’t know, sir. I was in the tower, watching the security feed, when I heard the explosion,” Smalls tells me. “When I walked out of the tower, I saw the flames and grabbed the fire extinguisher as fast as I could.”
I try to examine the car through the flames when it hits me. “Athena!”
I run inside the clubhouse. With a quick glance, there’s no one in the main room. I check the bathroom before checkin’ both her room and mine, not finding her anywhere.
“Athena!” I call out as I walk back into the main room. Ranger walks into the clubhouse with Raze and Buster behind him as I notice a cell phone on the floor. I pick it up, realizing it’s Athena’s. “Son of a bitch!”
“Prez, Saint is on the line,” Ranger tells me. “You’re not gonna like what he has to say.”
