“See, I was thinking you’d say that, but I’d just have to disagree.”
“Would you?All right.Tell me why.”
“Firstly, I think it’s a safety issue.”
I snorted a laugh at that.“A safety issue?”
“Definitely. The long drive, the dirt road, the dark early mornings, and when winter comes, the dark nights.I’m thinking it’s safer if you essentially room and board with us.”
“For my safety, right.Any other reason?”
“Yes, as a matter of fact.I’m glad you asked, darlin.”He winked at me.“Beyond the economical and environmental benefits that I’d admitted before, there’s also the sexual component.”
I choked on air.
“You see, we’ve all been very good boys.Waiting for the right time because none of us can stand the idea of being inside that pretty pussy for the first time and then watching you walk out that door.Honestly, pretty sure we wouldn’t let you.”He stepped closer, so I was no longer just leaning against the counter but pressed against it.“So, if you’d be so inclined to spend a few nights with us, we could finally alleviate the empty sensation I know you’ve been feeling.”
He started kissing me.Down my neck and on the top of my shoulder. His hands started roaming my sides before he wrapped his hands around my thighs and lifted me onto the counter.
It was a good thing I’d already shoved back the cutting board and small bowls of diced, sliced, and minced innards for the wraps.
Oaks pressed between my legs and then pulled me until I was flush with him.Sitting on the counter, I was the exact height of him thanks to my short torso.
“Think of how good it would feel after a long day?”He kissed up my neck until he could just barely nibble on my ear.“After you’re tired from being on your feet all day, from hefting around baskets of laundry and shoving the mop back and forth.I’d lay this beautiful body down and undress you.Rub my hands all over you until you’re relaxed into a puddle on the sheets, my touch occasionally teasing between your thighs, preparing your body to take me.”
He groaned at his own visual.“You have no idea how much I’ve wanted to get inside you.”
“Is that all?”Even as I tried to keep my tone teasing, it came out more breathless.“That’s only two reasons.I thought you’d really put in some effort.”
Oaks growled, his hands tightening around me as I tried to hide my smile. It was impossible, though.
“You are such a brat.”He pulled me in for a kiss. Not the type where his tongue tasted me, just a press of his lips on mine before he pulled away.“Now, as much as I would like to take the time to thoroughly convince you to sleepover.I do need lunch.I’m starving.”
“Didn’t you like the snack I made you?”It was just a mix of nuts, raisins, and some chocolate pieces.Still, it should have held him over from breakfast.
“I did.Liked it.Ate it all.Still hungry.”
“Really?”
“Pretty sure Atlas’s heat is coming up.My body always gets hungrier, storing up on food in the week or two before.”
“His heat?”I squeaked the words out, my mind trying to pick out a single thought in the mayhem of my brain.
If Atlas’s heat was coming up, then I needed to cook better for his diet. For all their diets.Heats took a lot out of a pack.Hydration and nutrients and energy. They all needed more electrolytes in their drinks and carbs in their foods. Then, closer to the actual heat, more protein. We also needed to start preparing Atlas’s nest.Well, Atlas needed to start preparing, but that would mean blankets and pillows and clothing of his packmates to make him feel safe when his instincts took over.
Oaks chuckled at whatever expression he saw on my face.“Yes, his heat.I don’t know for sure, though. It’s just my guess considering my extra appetite.”
It did make sense.I had been here two months already. So unless Atlas’s heat was immediately before I’d arrived, he was due for one.
The idea of being with Atlas in a heat had my insides twisting—in the best way.It was the kind of excitement and anticipation like before a first day at a new job.No, better.Sharing this with Atlas would be another step closer to me becoming pack.Especially if he’d meant what he said about wanting me in his nest.
There was every possibility that his omega instincts wouldn’t be able to handle me near his alphas.I would have to deal with that if it happened. For the time being, I was choosing to be positive.I wanted to be in Atlas’s heat, and he wanted me there.I had to hope that his omega instincts wanted me there, too, but we wouldn’t know until he officially started.
A new set of nerves came to life in my stomach. This one was much more pleasant than the other anxieties in my life.
At every turn, this pack expressed their interest in me.Oaks wanting to me to move in.Atlas wanting me in his heat.I never doubted that this pack wanted me.It was heady.Romantic.
My phone rang and Oaks kissed my cheek before grabbing my device.“It’s Everett.”
