Chapter Eight

In the two weeks thathad passed after getting that letter, I was slowly starting to go insane.Every pamphlet or declaration that I’d tried to read to understand what I could or could not do, was written like it was purposefully trying to trick me.Any act, or failure to act, recent or within the statues of limitations per each state’s most recent congressional approval, that causes harm or a substantial risk of harm to the omega designation.

The OC handbook was pretty straightforward, but it wasn’t the OC that was technically leading this investigation, it was my representative. That meant reading the lawshewas bound to and that felt impossible.Nothing was plain.Nothing was explained. It felt impossible to understand without some sort of degree.Sure, the information was public, but what good did that do if the information wasn’t recognizable.

To the end of section 2256, add the following—“The prohibition under this paragraph applies to all protection orders for the protection of an omega not residing within a pack.”

It was a headache to read and even more painful to try and understand.Did that mean I was in less trouble if the omega I’d ‘hurt’ had a pack?I definitely needed a lawyer, which was part of the research I was doing. In fact, I was going to have to get the nerve to ask the pack for a late call sometime next week so I could go in for a consultation I’d booked.

I was gaining the nerve to do that.It would be slightly awkward since I’d only worked for them a month.Still, people had to go to doctor’s appointments, didn’t they?I figured if I only missed a half day, and I made sure they had breakfast, and maybe lunch to go, it would be fine.

Hands around my stomach made me gasp, the sudden touch of a stranger when I thought I was alone making me jump away from the touch.Whirling around—my heart settled as I saw Atlas and not some murderer come to harvest my organs.Except ...Atlas didn’t look quite right.

He was breathing hard, his chest heaving dramatically. Both his hands were fisted by his sides, the veins on his forearms standing out aggressively. He stared at me, essentially glaring, and the look had me backing up a step.

He followed.“You’ve been distant.”

“What?”

“I’ve tried to give you space.Honest.I have.”Another step closer.“But the tastes I get of you aren’t enough.I’m craving you, pet.And the more you pull away, the more I want to chase and pin you down.”

My throat tightened, making it impossible to swallow.

“You started covering your scent again.”The way he bared his teeth told me how much he hated that.“I can’t let another weekend pass without knowing what’s wrong.I can’t go two whole fucking days without seeing you, wondering if you’re okay, going out of my mind.Did you know that last weekend, Oaks and Everett had to keep me speared on their cocks to stop me from getting to you? They had to constantly fuck me because the moment they pulled out of my ass, I was desperate for you.”

I couldn’t stop the moan that escaped past my lips.I wasn’t sure if it was the desperation for me, or the image of the pack all fucking, that was turning me on quicker. It honestly didn’t matter. My body was heating up and I tried to squeeze my legs together, as if that would help.It didn’t.

He closed the distance between us, pressing me back against the countertop, his front pressed against mine.I could barely breathe with the feel of him against me.My hips, of their own volition, jerked against him.

“Let me tell you what’s going to happen, pet.”

He wasn’t asking, but I nodded anyway.

“I’m going to take you to the bedroom and get a delicious taste of this pussy. You’re going to be a good little pet and cream all over my face, get your scent nice and saturated on my blankets. Then, you’re going to tell me exactly what’s been bothering you these last few days and I’m going to fix it.Got it?”

I was nodding along with his words, uncaring about that last bit.
