“Yeah.”

She moves somewhere, heels rattling floorboards. “Okay. Well, yes then.” I stay quiet to give her room to really make that choice, and keep watching the blood and panting going on in front of me. “I mean yes. It's taken me a while to wrap my head around it, but yes, I’d like to, you know.”

“No, I don’t know. Say it.”

She huffs. “I’m not doing that.”

“Yes, you are.” Especially after making me wait.

I crouch down in front of Saul Goldmann and keep drinking. He labours sideways, maybe trying to get away from me, as he spits some blood out. He needn’t bother. I’m done here for now. Guess he doesn’t know that, though.

“Well, I’d like to see where this goes between us. I agree,” she says, quietly. A chuckle rumbles through me, brow arching. See where it goes? She’ll be surprised as fuck about where I’m taking her to show her where it’s going. “I'd like to… explore.”

Yeah. I bet she would with someone like me guiding her.

I tip my wrist to check the time. “I’ll come get you in an hour.”

“Ten o’clock?”I stand and pace backwards, placing my glass on the table. “What do I wear?”

“Whatever the hell you want.”

The call ends, and I grab hold of my jacket to leave. Saul keeps looking at me as if I might come after him again. I will if he screws up one more time, but for tonight this conversation is over. “Let’s not have this talk again, yeah?”

The two sidekicks behind me move out of my way, lowering their heads as I eyeball both of them. Good. Shouldn’t need to come back here again in a hurry. Although, people are fucking dense sometimes. Might need to. I walk out and wander through the club, grabbing a cloth off the bar to wipe my hands down on the way. Humid heat licks straight over me the second I step outside. I need to shower this blood and sweat off me before I get to her. I also need to make a phone call.

She’s waiting on the porch when I pull into the avenue. I look at her waiting there for me, and keep the speed slow while I end the call to Rick. He’s promised all kinds of things tonight, the main one being he’ll open the back door for me and won’t say a word. I’ve known him long enough to know he means it. He’s not family, but he’s as trustworthy as they come since we argued about the virtues of manners way back. Doubt he ever wants his face breaking again.

She walks down the steps when I pull over, swinging her fine-ass body along like it owns everything around it. I watch her slide in and meet her gaze. She smiles. It’s not full on. It’s quiet, wary. I get that - like it in all honesty.

“Hey,” she says. I broaden my own smile and look back at the road, pulling us off towards the drive we’ve got to make.

It’s an hour’s journey. I’m not doing a damn thing with her closer to home than that, and I’m certainly not going anywhere we own. She tries making small talk on the way, probably trying to ease her nerves. I don’t help other than the occasional answer. I don’t want those nerves eased. I want her fired, jittery, and nervous as hell. Her head will start spinning then, wondering. I’ll be there with her – every step of the way – but this between us is going where she’s said she wants to go. It won't be what she’s ever known before.

The lights on the outskirts of Austin come into view in silence. No stereo. No interruptions to break the mood. I’ve been thinking all kinds of shit while she sat quietly and tried relaxing. Doesn’t help that she's chosen a skin-tight dress and killer heels to wear, stud work all over them. She looks like all my fantasies come true. Artful hair, all wild and raw. Body that’s screaming to be used.

I shake my head, chuckling to myself quietly. She’s so far from the girl I grew up around, I don’t know what to do with the perverse shit in my head. I tap my ring on the steering wheel, trying to cool myself down from going too far. This is a first for her. A beginning.

“You got any limits, Wren Bird?” I ask, pulling into heavier traffic.

“What?”

“Things you won’t do.”

“What do you mean? Like what?”

I look at her, making sure she’s taking it seriously. “Other women. Pain. Whipping. Watching. Getting buck-ass naked in front of people.” Her eyes widen.

“Where the hell are we going?”

“Does it matter?”

She smiles a little, laughs lightly. “I don’t know if I have any limits. Guess we’ll find out.”

“Don’t be going anywhere near any other men. You hear me? I’ll kill them.” She laughs again and looks out the window, dismissing the words. “I mean it, Wren. You won’t like what you see if you try.” Her eyes come back to mine slowly until she gets the point, so I look back up front and get us where we’re going. “Anything else you want, just ask. You'll get it.”

True to his word, Rick left the back door on the old building open right on time. She slips in behind me and stares around the small, dirty room. I open the door over in the corner and look downwards, waving my hand at her to get her ass down there. Heavy music drifts up to us. Always does in this place. I can smell it already too – sweat, cum, heat.
