I’d just forked a bite of food into my mouth when the sound of the doorbell followed the knocks, echoing through the home.India. She was the only person I knew who knocked three times and then rang the doorbell three times.
The bell sounded two more times. My gaze jerked to Julian as I dropped the fork. It hit the plate with a loud clank.
“It’s my daughter,” I whispered, panicking.
He didn’t look concerned at all. “Let’s go get dressed so you can let her in.”
I grabbed his forearm before he could rise from his seat. “No!” I whispered loudly.
“What’s wrong?”
“I can’t open the door while you’re here.”
“Ohhh.....” he drawled, leaning back in his seat, subtly pulling his arm away from me.
He may not think I noticed. But I did. I just didn’t have time to worry about it. My daughter was here, and so was the brother of her roommate. I could not let my daughter see me with him.
Not today.
Not ever!
“Julian, if I asked you to hide, would you do it?” I whispered, hating the desperation creeping into my tone.
I know this made me look like an asshole. But what other choice did I have?
