“Yes, Fin,” Omni grunts as his thrusts grow erratic, his fingers picking up the pace on my clit, rubbing just the way I like.

When the orgasm finally crests, everything disappears into white bliss. There’s nothing but pleasure beyond my wildest dreams as all of my worries, thoughts, and fears fade away, silent for this one brief moment. Crying out my name, Omni joins me in this moment of bliss, both of us riding high on the waves of mutual orgasm as if we are one being. As the aftershocks subside, we slump down onto the bed, still connected, Omni on his side with me held securely against his chest.

As reason slowly starts returning to my mushy brain, tears form in my eyes. I want this. Not just the orgasms, although, they are literally out of this world, but the rest of it as well. The cuddling, the shared breakfasts, the lazy afternoons watching TV. I want Omni and it’s so damned unfair that after tomorrow, I will probably never see him again.

“I wish I could take you fly,” Omni sighs as if his thoughts are following a similar trail to mine. “To join in the sky.”

“Join? Wait, do your people do the freaky stuff mid-air?”

Chuckling, Omni kisses the top of my head. “Yes. Mating dance.”

Mating? It must just mean sex. “How is it done when your partner doesn’t have wings?” Flying sex sounds scary as fuck even if I did have wings. Without them, it borders on suicide.

“It has been done. Few times. My people do not travel to space or…mix with other people. Other aliens. Spaceships are small.”In explanation, he stretches out his top wing over us like a feathery blanket, the other one safely folded behind him as he spoons me.

“So, your people rarely leave their home planet because spaceships aren’t built with winged people in mind.” It makes sense, I guess. Especially if they have no desire to “mix” with other species. “You left. Hell, you travel in spaceships all of the time.”

His arm tightens around my midsection. “Yes, I left. My family… They wanted I continue…family business. I wanted more. I wanted to help people. I left. We do not speak.”

“Oh. I’m sorry. My parents are veritable freaks, but I can always talk to them about anything. It’s funny. My parents would worship you as a higher being and yours would kick me off your planet,” I snort. “Not that we’re, like, a couple or anything. But if we were…”

“If we were…” Omni echoes wistfully.

 “Yeah.”

Feeling the heaviness of the moment, we both fall silent. What else is there to say? There’s a million and one reasons why we can never be together. Feelings won’t change anything.

 Chapter 24

 Omni

Lastnightwasmind-blowing.It wasn’t just sex, it was connection. Our souls collided then combined into one. I even told Fin about my parents. Well, not everything because it doesn’t really matter, but more than I’ve ever told anyone else, aside from my captain. It felt right to share with her. Everything with Fin feels right. Even the next morning, when we’re both wide awake and feeling stressed out over our current predicament, I still don’t regret being with her. We haven’t heard from either of Fin’s friends and I have a feeling it’s because the human military wasn’t as easily fooled as theythought they would be, but I hadn’t said anything at the time because I didn’t want to worry Fin by pointing it out.

My suspicions are soon proven right as we step outside of our motel room. Donning the thick, heavy cape that makes me look extremely odd but somewhat disguises my wings, I motion for Fin to head out first. Looking around the parking area, Fin confirms no one is around before waving for me to follow. As I step out from underneath the motel’s awning, the hairs on the back of my neck immediately stand on end. Someone is watching us and judging by the eerie silence and lack of people in what would otherwise be a busy lot, I don’t have to guess who.

Standing by the car, Fin watches with confusion as I stop in the middle of the open space and pull back my hood. “What are you doing?” she whisper-yells. “We need to go.”

 “Too late. They are here.”

“What?” Startled, Fin looks around, her fear sending a jolt through my heart. This is my fault. “Who is here?”

 “Your military.”

 “How do you know?!”

Because I’ve been in enough combat situations to recognize when there’s a gun pointed at me. I don’t tell her this, obviously. “I just know.” Untying the cape, I let it drop completely, flexing my wings. I’m not stupid enough to think I could fly away, even if my wing was fully healed, not with the number of potential shooters posted all around us. I’m just showing them I’m what they came for. “I am one you look for,” I call out, raising my hands. “I surrender. Do not harm the human.”

Fin silently shakes her head at me but, for once, I ignore her. This is not a game we can win.

The side door of a large vehicle parked nearby slides open and, as expected, several soldiers dressed in black pour out, their weapons trained on me. Projectile weapons. Not as effectiveagainst armor as laser weapons, which is why they aren’t widely used around the galaxy anymore, but I’m not wearing armor.

Fin cries out in protest but fortunately, stays glued in place instead of rushing toward me. As much as I long to comfort her, right now she’s safer being away from me.

The soldiers are all wearing helmets, protective goggles, and masks, completely obscuring their faces, but the woman who follows them, while dressed similarly, has her face visible. “We don’t make a habit of harming our own people,” she says, strolling closer while the armed soldiers surround me.

“You!” Fin marches up to the woman with a vicious scowl. “You can’t do this! This is a free country. You can’t just run around here waving guns!”

The woman smiles, though it doesn’t reach her eyes. “Ms. Young, I assure you my men and I are very much authorized to ‘run around waving guns’. We are also authorized to take you into quarantine due to your exposure to extraterrestrial, uh,material.” The way she looks between us makes it clear that she at least suspects the nature of our relationship. To my surprise, she doesn’t seem angry or disgusted, but rather mildly curious. “Grab her,” she orders.
