“No way. I am not ready to settle down. Not at all.” We walked into the room full of men, and my sister was in hog heaven. “Well, look at this. I’ve never seen so many handsome men in my life.”
Stone came to us, kissing me then leaving a kiss on Lily’s cheek. “Always the bell of the ball, aren’t you?”
“Always.” She handed the baby to Stone. “Here you go, Daddy. Your son has your gorgeous blue eyes, lucky devil.”
Stone gave me a nod. “And his momma’s blonde hair. Double lucky devil.”
“Now, what are we gonna be talking about here at this meeting?” She took a seat, and I took one next to hers, and Stone sat next to me. “A round table,” she pointed out. “Just like the knights of old had. Right?”
Baldwyn nodded. “We wanted to make a space for us to meet where there was no one person in charge. That way, you feel every bit as equal as the person sitting next to you.”
“Very nice,” Lily said as she looked around the table. “I feel special, sitting here with you all.”
“We’re excited to have you and Jessa joining us,” Tyrell said. “Your resort has only been open for six months and has already made high profits. We couldn’t be more pleased. And to hear that you’re the one bringing in the clientele, Miss Lily — very impressive.”
“I do try.” She fanned herself. “Aw, it feels nice to be part of something.”
Stone leaned over to whisper, “See, she came out of things just fine.”
I was happy to see that Lily had found a passion too. “She sure did.”
I hadn’t had to do a thing with the estate — she’d worked with the advisors that Whispers Resort had sent over to turn the place into something out of a dream. Most of the time, my home felt like a nearly empty hotel. And now, it was a thriving resort, bringing joy to many.
Dad had left us something special, not the nightmare headache I’d thought we were inheriting. And I was able to remain faithful to my path, another year closer to becoming a doctor.
The meeting didn’t last long. Afterward, Auntie Lily wanted to keep baby Liam in her room for the night so she could spend some quality time with him, since they didn’t have plenty together. All I knew was that I was overjoyed to be spending some alone time with my guy.
Coming out of the bathroom, not wearing a single piece of fabric, I surprised Stone as he lay on the bed, channel surfing. He took one look at me and turned the television off, then tossed the remote on the floor as he began ripping his clothes off. “Oh, yeah!”
Once again, with the baby, time had gotten in the way of us having much of a sex life. So, I was not going to let this night go by without pleasing my man. “I hope you’ve consumed lots of liquids to help you through this sexual journey I’m about to take you on, babe.”
He picked up the bottle of water off the nightstand, gulping it down. “I’m ready.”
Laughing, I flew into his open arms then wrapped my legs around his waist. “This is one of my most favorite places to be in. Right in your arms.”
“I love you being in them too.” He kissed me hard, as it took us no time at all to find that passion we shared. He carried me to the bed, laying me down as he moved his body over mine, pressing himself into me, connecting us in such a way that made my heart pound only from our connection.
Life couldn’t have been any sweeter than it was, living with him and our son. Stone was an amazing man who’d gotten his bistro up and going, with lines running along the hospital’s hallways as people waited to get to taste one of Chef Nash’s many creations.
Stone had gotten used to being called Chef Nash, and even showed a fair amount of pride that people had started calling him that. I was proud to be a huge part of his life. But I wanted just a little bit more.
I wasn’t sure if he was on the same page that I was, though. So after we made love and lay in a pile of messed up sheets and blankets, I dug deep to find the courage to ask him something that had been building inside of me since our son’s birth. He’d stayed right there with me throughout everything that had to do with our pregnancy. He was the man I was meant to spend my life with, and now I knew that without a shadow of a doubt.
My arm draped over his body, I kissed his chest before looking up at him. “Stone, do you ever think about getting married?”
“To who?” he teased me.
I smacked him in the chest. “Me, you fool.”
“Is that a proposal?” he asked.
“If it is, what would you say to it?” I bit my lip, not completely sure he was into the idea just yet.
“If you’re asking me to marry you, then I’m saying hell yes.” He reached over, taking something out of the nightstand, then held up a little black box. “It seems like I’ve been thinking the same thing as you. I picked this up this morning.”
He opened the box, revealing an insane engagement ring. “Oh, my God!” I held out my hand, wiggling my fingers. “Put it on me!”
As he slid that ring onto my finger, I felt my heart burst wide open. “I love you so much.”
