“So does Killian,” I whispered, guilt filling me to the brim.
“Butyoudo not love Killian,” she stated.
I do not love Killian. I love Warner.
“I still don’t know what to do. Warner will leave, and Killian won’t.”
“Yeah,” she agreed. “I’m just guessing here, but you and Warner didn’t do an official breakup when you left, huh?”
“No, we did not break up, but I guess we were never really together. I mean, we weretogether, but we knew the whole time that I had to leave. It was a tearful goodbye, too. I cried all the way to the airport. And then I cried off and on throughout the entire flight. Although I’d learned how to cry quietly by that time.”
“You’ve got to get closure with Warner. You have to talk to him and tell each other that it is over and done with. Maybe then you can both move on.”
“You’re right. If I have an ending for Warner and me, then I might be able to move on. And I might find that I could let Killian into my heart. Or I might find that I cannot let him in, and I’ll end things with him as well. Either way, I’ve got to move on with my life.” I’d been treading water, so to speak, for too long now. It was time to make a change. Maybe even more than one.
She pulled up to my cottage and parked the car. “Should I come in, or would you rather be alone?”
“I’ve got some crying to do,” I admitted. “This shook me to my core. I’d be dreadful company right now, but thank you for the offer, and thanks for the ride home. You’re a true friend.”
I grabbed my purse from the backseat and went into my home. As I tossed the purse onto the table by the front door, some of the things inside spilled out.
Picking them up, I wondered why my purse was unzipped in the first place. I was sure I’d closed it. A small card lay on the table, and I remembered why it was open. Cara had picked up the business card Warner had placed on the bar, and she’d put it into my purse before bringing it out to the car.
The card had a picture of a castle on it.The Castle at Whisper Hills, Bed and Breakfast, Mini-Resort. There was a local phone number too. I’d never heard of this place, but the castle did look familiar.
Ah, the one that’s been for sale on the bay for the last few years.
But what did it have to do with Warner?
