I had no clue why I had never looked up anything about virgins being allowed to do this process, but I hadn’t. It all seemed to have crept up on me. Or rather, I’d turned a blind eye to this potential setback of becoming a mother to a child.

Virgins don’t have babies, right?

My legs shook as I climbed up to take a seat at the end of the table, then the doctor spoke up. “Your bottom needs to be at the very edge of the table, then you need to lie flat on your back. I’ll put your feet in the stirrups for you.”

Gulping, I scooted my ass to the edge then laid back. Ransom was right there next to my face. “Hi.”

“Hey, you,” my voice was weak and shaky.

“Don’t be nervous.” He leaned over me, kissing my forehead.

The touch of his lips made me hot inside. My nipples went hard as rocks, and I actually felt blood gush onto the pad.

How gross!

We might need to set some rules about physically touching if this went any further. Of course, that would mean that I would have to admit to the man how much he affected me, sexually speaking. But something had to be done about it.

The nurse threw a sheet over me after pulling my legs up and putting my feet into the stirrups. It made a drape, making it impossible for me to see what was going on down there. And I hoped Ransom couldn’t see anything from his vantage point either.

“I hope everything’s okay down there,” I whispered.

Ransom’s smile was as big as ever. His eyes sparkled like blue diamonds in the dim light. And I had never thought him more handsome. “I’m sure things are fine, Aspen. So, I told you that I had a story to tell you to get your mind off this. You want to hear it now?”

“Please.” I bit my lower lip as I felt my panties being slid down.

It’s only a matter of time now.

His hand moved down my arm, then he took mine, holding it in a loose grip. “So, this guy is having a really bad day, right?”

“Okay,” I said as I felt some cold gel being rubbed all over my nether regions.

He went on, “He’s sitting in this bar, a full beer in front of him. This tough biker type guy comes into the bar and heads straight for him. He gives the poor guy a shove, and then picks up the other man’s beer and downs it.”

“Kind of rude,” I say as I hear the sound of the ultrasound wand being pulled out of its holder.

“Yeah,” Ransom agrees. “So, this poor guy who’s had a really bad day tells the fella who drank the only beer he could even afford that he got to work that morning and found out he’d gotten a flat tire. But that’s not the worst of it. His boss fired him for a mistake another employee made. And it gets even worse. When he gets home, his own dog bites him. And then it all comes to a head when he heads inside and finds his wife in bed with his best friend.”

“This is so not a funny story, Ransom,” I had to let him know. “Our humor is very different, I suppose.” I felt the cold steel press against the opening of my vagina.

Ransom laughed. “Let me finish. Then the poor guy who has had the worst day ever tells the biker that all he had was enough money to buy the one beer, and he’d already put enough poison in it to kill him within five minutes. Well, the biker just shrugs and says he doesn’t care. The poor man shakes his head, his shoulders slumped, and he says to the bullying jerk that heshouldcare, because he just drank the poisoned beer that was meant for him.”

I was about to laugh when Doctor Larson blurted out, “Miss Dell, you’re a virgin!”

And here we go

Chapter Fifteen

Ransom

Lubbock, Texas – May 25th

Stunned, I stood there, holding Aspen’s hand as the doctor looked at me. “Were you aware of this, Mr. Whitaker? Is this something that you two have talked about?”

I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t want to throw Aspen under the bus. I didn’t want to stand back and point my finger at her and shout that she’d never told me a thing about being a virgin. So, I did the gentlemanly thing. Taking a deep breath, I regained my composure. “Of course it is, Doctor Lawson. She and I have no secrets from each other. This isn’t a problem, is it?” I squeezed Aspen’s hand to let her know I wasn’t pleased about her omission.

Aspen closed her eyes; tiny tears leaked out of them. “I’m sorry, doctor. I should’ve told you.” I knew that was meant for me too.

I wasn’t mad. Just surprised. Completely surprised.
