“For sure!” Terry says and gives Blaine a high-five.

Colby gives him one next. “Wouldn’t miss that for anything! I’ll behere.”

“I could use a couple of best men,” Blaine says. “You two want thejob?”

“Yes!” they say,together.

“This is insane,” I say. “Did you guys see thesnow?”

“We did,” Colby says. “As a matter of fact, when I saw it, I went to wake up Terry so he could see it too. We were together when the lady came to draw his blood, and she got mine then too. And, later, the doctor came and told us the great news at the same time. It wasawesome!”

“I can’t even imagine,” I say. “I’ve never even heard of anything like this. Notever!”

“I just wish every child here could’ve gotten the same news,” Blaine says. “But I’ll take what I can get. I’m happier than I’ve ever been, seeing you guys like this. Healthy andhappy.”

“How about a little Christmas breakfast before our ceremony,” Terryasks.

“You got it,” Blaine says, then we head toward thecafeteria.

“I’m going to go talk to my boss. You three go eat, and I’ll catch up with you soon,” I tell Blaine who gives me a nod and then a kiss on thecheek.

“Go show off that ring and make sure to let everyone know about the wedding,” he says as I walk away fromhim.

I wave back at him, then turn around and go see what I can get accomplished with my boss. Hopefully, with all of the other miracles, I’ll get the change in my schedule I’d like tohave.

“What has happened around here?” Paul asks me as we meet in the hallway. “Have you heard all the wonderful news?” His eyes go right to my left hand and he takes it, looking at the monster on my finger. “Delaney Richards, are you going to getmarried?”

“I am. On New Year’s Eve. Right in our little chapel. You should come,” I say, then take my hand back. “And what about these miracles? Have you ever seen anything likethis?”

Walking beside me, he says, “You know, I read about a thing like this once. It wasn’t on Christmas and it wasn’t all in one day. It was a week, and thirteen children’s test results suddenly changed. All of them got better during that week. It was a rarecase.”

“So, we are the new rare case, I assume.” I skip a couple of steps, as I feel light and overjoyed. “And we get to claim a part inhistory!”

“I’m sure there will be people wanting to interview Blaine. He’s the common factor in all of the children. Even Meagan Sanders, in a way. He was banned from her room, but she was one of his original group he made frequent visits to. And now he has your hand in marriage too. Well, he gets what he wants, doesn’the?”

“I suppose he does,” Iagree.

“Did you ever read that article that was written about him a couple of years ago?” he asks me. I shake my head. “It was written by a man who he ran out of business with his super stores. The man claimed to have seen Blaine coming out of a building that was a known place for Satan worshipers. He made claims about Blaine selling his soul to the devil to earn hiswealth.”

My father has thought that for a while too. But I didn’t know there was an article. And I have no idea if what the man who wrote it said istrue.

Could Blaine have really done such athing?

Chapter4

BLAINE

Leaving the chapel, I can hardly wait to find Delaney and tell her my news. Making my way to the nurses’ station, where I think she’ll be, I find myself feeling like I’m floating onair.

When I see her talking to her boss, I see her frowning and have no idea if I should interfere or not. So I wait and watch her as her arms go up. She goes a bit red in the face, then she slams her fist on the counter top, and I decide I should see what’sup.

Moving in behind her, I wrap my arms around her waist. “What’s up,buttercup?”

Her boss looks kind of testy, then snaps, “She’s not getting her way. That’s what’s up. And if you think I’m about to give her special treatment over the other nurses, you’remistaken.”

“Oh, I see.” I had no idea it would be so hard to get a set shift for her. “There’s more than one hospital she can work at. You sure you won’t reconsider?” I ask the woman, who just seems kind of grouchy. She’s not normally like this. It makes me think something iswrong.

“Are you telling me she’ll quit if I don’t concede to herdemands?”
