The television is going off in the living room with some game being played. By the time I walk in, Karl puts it on mute making Luke look over at me.

“Sorry to interrupt. My mother just called to let me know she is giving us her massage at eleven. Do you want to take it?”

He smiles a wicked smile. “Of course! See you in the morning.”

I try to think of something clever to say. Anything to give me more of a reason to stay out here with him but then I remember this is just to pretend and the feelings I’m having are the complete opposite of pretend.

Screw it! I’m going back to my room. Once I’m back in my room, I grab my phone to send out a desperate text message to Sarah in hopes of her giving me some guidance.

ME: I have a problem

SARAH: I’m mad at you. You are at a beautiful resort with a man who just won the Superbowl!

ME: Do you really expect me to apologize for that?

SARAH: I guess not. What’s going on?

ME: I’m developing feelings for him and I know I’m going to get hurt again. What do I do?

SARAH:??I think you should go for it! Put some more effort into getting ready and flirt a little more. You might be surprised what could happen.

I just got my heart broken. One of the last things I want to do is put myself out there again to get hurt.

ME: All right. I’ll try it. If my heart gets broken, you better be sitting on the couch with me watching cheesy reality shows!

SARAH: The cheesier the better!

Chapter Sixteen

Luke

Karl and I are in the living room by the time Raina comes out of her room in the morning. I’m expecting her to still be wearing pajamas and not dressed for the day; but like always with Raina, I stand corrected.

The woman is wearing a fitted red and white patterned dress that shows me everything about her gorgeous body. My eyes greedily look down to see she is still wearing slippers.

She shrugs but doesn’t say anything about the slippers. I love her confidence.

Karl is right. I do have it bad.

Her hair is slightly curled with enough bounce to make my fingers itch from wanting to play with her hair so badly.

“Good morning!” Raina greets while accepting a steaming mug full of coffee for her. “I could get used to this.”

I like the sound of that.

Leaning in to kiss her on the cheek, I place my hand on the counter behind her. I’m happy to hear the catch in her breath as I brace in. “Good morning,” I murmur with my lips still brushing the apple of her cheek.

Raina clears her throat while shifting in my loose embrace. “Are you looking forward to the massage today?”

I smile while grabbing my mug off of the counter. I take a sip before nodding at her.

Karl chuckles. “Oh yeah, this is going to be fun. You crazy kids have fun.”

I give him a look that says he’s in trouble. Karl doesn’t say anything as he laughs down the hallway back to his room to get ready for the day. I can only imagine what he is planning to do today.

Raina checks her phone to see what time it is. “We have to get going. It is 10:30.”

“So,” I begin once we are out of the cabin. “How are you?”
