At the end of the ride, we are stopped at the restaurant again. Luke helps me off the carriage and just before the horses leave, he places his two big hands on my cheeks to kiss me softly. It is the sweetest kiss I have ever had making me remember how I felt about him all of those years ago.
And how dangerously close I am to falling for him again.
Chapter Fourteen
Luke
Her lips are so smooth against my own. Completely intoxicating in their own way. Once we break our kiss, I’m trying to catch my breath.
I have never felt like this with anyone besides Raina. There is something about the way she makes me feel that has me wanting her even more. Raina is an angel inside and out along with being beautiful.
This is the type of woman I could be with for the rest of my life and I hope to be.
What am I even thinking? I can’t believe I jumped that far ahead.
“Ready to walk back?” I ask her. My lips brush against her forehead to give her another kiss.
“Yes,” she blushes.
“You guys make such a cute couple!”
Both of us spin to try and see who said that to us. We see an elderly couple walking behind us with their hands clasped.
“We love seeing young kids in so much love,” the woman says with a big smile on her face.
“Thank you,” Raina replies.
“We’re a couple now, huh?” I ask her with my eyebrow raised.
“Sometimes it is easier to just agree. Plus, I think it would break their hearts if we weren’t together,” she answers.
“You are a romantic, aren’t you?”
She shrugs just as the snow begins to dance around us as if we are in a snow-globe. The snow gets caught in her hair but she doesn’t seem to have a problem with it as she isn’t shaking it out. She is unlike any other girl I have ever been with since making it to the NFL.
Most of the girls are too into their appearances to let something like snow get caught in their hair to ruin it.
Raina stops before we get back to the cabin halting our cadence. “Thanks for coming with me this weekend. It would have been hard enough to explain to my parents why I didn’t bring Colton and I didn’t want to tell them he dumped me.”
I smile at her while brushing some of the snow off of her cheeks. “No problem, princess. Want to get some hot chocolate before we turn in?”
She purses her lips as if she has to think about the value of her answer. Raina shakes her head slightly. “No, thank you. I’m actually really tired.”
I open the door to the cabin and lead her inside. Before she leaves in the hallway to her bedroom, I reach out for her hand to pull her close. I lean down and gently brush a kiss against her cheek.
“Thank you for being my date.”
It isn’t long before Karl is bursting in the door whistling about something. “Hey, man! You missed an epic night cap!”
“I’m good.”
He chuckles. “You got that stupid look on your face like you are contemplating something. What’s going on? I smell your mind working.”
“You really are the strangest man.”
He scoffs. “It’s a gift. Tell Uncle Karl all about it.”
“Nothing is wrong.”
