The fact that those assholes are coming after Isidora and tried to destroy my car has me pissed the fuck off. I’m also surprised how quickly that hit got out for Isidora.
We pull up to my house and I park my car. My house is a vintage-looking Greek home with everything freshly updated. I love my home and it is my pride and joy. I spent a lot of money and time getting my house to look this beautiful.
The two-story home has had a lot of work done including the panic room I had built on each floor in case it is needed.
I’m not stupid and know that things can happen.
“This is where you live?”
“Yeah, it is.”
She hums her approval. “I hope you aren’t married or anything. If you are, this could be extremely awkward.”
“Nah, you have nothing to worry about.”
We enter the home and she starts to look around nervously.
“Are we going to talk about the thing that we aren’t talking about?” I throw out there.
She stops what she is doing and then looks at me. Her eyes are wide and her lips are parted. “Are you sure you want to talk about it?”
I nod.
“Why didn’t you come with me? Why did you leave me in the hospital after I almost got killed to run back to my brother?” Her questions are fired off quickly.
I take a seat on the couch and point to the chair for her to sit down. She sits down primly and waves her hand in the air to hurry me up to say something.
“Baby, you almost died! Do you honestly think I’m okay with the fact that you could have died?”
She takes a deep breath. “But I didn’t.”
“You could have died because of me.”
“No, I almost died because of who my brother is. You had nothing to do with it.”
We stare at each other for a couple of seconds trying to figure out the best thing to say.
“You left me,” Isidora states with her eyes boring into mine. “You left me when I needed you. I needed you! You hurt me so much and you just walked away from me. How could you do that to someone you loved?”
I fight the urge to climb out of my chair to walk over to her and gather her in my arms. Nothing would work besides the words. I need to say the right words to get her to see that my leaving her was the best thing for her.
“Isidora, I loved you so much that I let you go. You know for the past seven years, I have never forgotten about you? You were the only person I saw when I dated other women. You have no idea how much it hurt me to leave you. But look at everything you did because I left you?”
She takes a deep breath and sighs. “I know why you did it. I don’t like it, but I get it. Where do we go from here?”
I smile. “We get to know each other.”
“How do that?”
“We will find a way. Let me make you some dinner.”
Chapter Eleven
Isidora
I never expected to be under the spell of Milo again. I never would have expected I would like it. I have been here for three days and each day that passes is another brick gone from my heart.
I shouldn’t have forgiven him so quickly. I know that. However, I know why he did what he did. He did it to try and protect me. I hate that he did it, but I get it.
