“I think you and I both know what I’m capable of. You wanted a war, you got the war.”
My husband slams his fist down on the table in front of him. “You started this whole mess because you took what was mine!”
Maksim clucks his tongue then shrugs. “You ran me off the road. Are we really going to do this right now in front of your gorgeous wife?”
My face falls at the reference of being Sergei’s wife. I know who I am and I know what I’m worth to Sergei. Not very much, but right now I’m his bargaining chip.
I couldn’t imagine going back to Sergei. I know he’s going to kill me for getting kidnapped and he’s going to demand I tell him everything I said.
“Stay away from my wife! She’s my wife! Look at her looking like a damned whore!” Sergei shouts through the computer screen.
My blood begins to curdle in my body. He has been mean to me before, but this hateful act is something he has mastered lately. I have a feeling it is because of Maksim.
My eyes flood with tears of frustration. Maksim takes me in his arms and holds me to his body. My small, tired body curls into him for strength and something more I have never experienced before.
“Looks to me as if she has made her choice. Work with Vlad to get my property back,” Maksim mutters under his breath.
Sergei is screaming something about me being his but Maksim disconnects the call.
