Since the last time Jersey popped up, I hadn’t seen Kirby. I didn’t know if he was mad at the fact that Jersey kept popping up or what. Either way, he needed to bring his ass by because I needed to talk to him. Tasha still hadn’t moved her ass out, and I was about to get on her ass about it. I know I said she could stay, but I was just in my feelings. She, of all people, should know that if he said it, then he meant it. I wasn’t trying to be back in the projects. I knew he wouldn’t hesitate to take Jerz with him and have my ass back on section eight in a heartbeat. I’d become accustomed to this lifestyle, and I wasn’t giving it up.

“Tasha, let me talk to you.” I walked into the living room, and she was sitting on the couch with her laptop in her lap.

“Before you even start, here.” She reached in her bag and pulled out an envelope and handed it over to me.

“What’s this?” I asked while opening it.

“My part for bills and stuff. I don’t want you to think I was trying to stay here rent free. I just needed to save my moneyso that I could hurry up and move. It’s gonna take longer than I expected now, but at least now, you can’t put me out.” She smirked.

“Thank you for this. I don’t want you to think I didn’t want you here, but you have to understand that I couldn’t have Jersey threatening to snatch all this from me. Where would that put us? Right back where we started, and I refused to go back there. I’ll let him know you gave me your portion so he can stop tripping.”

“Thanks, sis. I really appreciate you for letting me stay here. Eric has been popping up at my job, and I know I can’t go back to that house with him,” she vented.

“You’re good here. He knows who my baby daddy is, so he’s not dumb enough to try no shit this way. You can stay as long as you need to.” I meant what I said. She could stay as long as she needed, as long as she footed her portion of the bills.

Kirby made it back in town, and, surprisingly, he invited me to his place. I’d never been over here before, so I was excited and nervous. He always wanted to come to my house, and I was skeptical at first, thinking he had a girl. I guess that wasn’t the case. I pulled up to an apartment complex and turned up my nose a lil’ bit. It wasn’t exactly bad, but it definitely wasn’t top tier. Getting out my car, making sure that I locked my doors, I sauntered up the stairs to the second floor.

“Aight, Honcho. I’ma get with you.” Some guy was walking out as I approached the door.

“’Sup, bae? I see you made it,” he greeted once the guy passed me.

“Hey. I was surprised you invited me over here,” I said, honestly.

“Don’t be like that. I knew you had your kid most of the time. I didn’t want you to have your sister watching him all the time. I figured it was time for you to start coming through since your baby daddy seems to have a problem with me being over there and shit. You still fucking him?”

“Hell no! That’s probably why he’s tripping so hard,” I lied. Jersey wasn’t fucking me no matter how hard I tried. Sucking his dick didn’t count.

“Yeah, he seems like the hating ass type. He’ll realize that he fucked up once he sees a real nigga loving on you right.” He squeezed my butt and kissed me on the lips.

“I was glad that you called. We need to talk.”

“About what?” he asked, plopping down on the couch.

“About us.”

“What about us? You know we good, so I hope you not coming over here to start bitching.”

“No, I’m not. I came to tell you I’m pregnant,” I blurted out.

“Pregnant?” he questioned.

“Uh huh. I found out a few days ago. That’s why I was trying to contact you.” I was fidgeting with my fingers because I was nervous to see what his reaction would be.

“Damn. I don’t know what to say. I mean, of course I wasn’t expecting it, but shit. I’m not mad either,” he revealed, and I released the breath that I had been holding.

“So, you’re not mad?” I asked for my own clarification.

“Nah, not at all. This is a good thing. I get to share a baby mama with my man Jersey. I’d say that would be something to be happy about,” he beamed. It was almost as if he was more excited about making Jersey upset than us having this baby together.

“I’m not some damn property, so I don’t appreciate you making it seem like I am. The only reason I’m telling you is because if you can’t do the shit for me that Jersey already is, I’mnot keeping this baby. I’m not about to fuck up what I already got if you can’t meet it or beat it.” Wasn’t no need in beating around the bush. I wasn’t having this baby if he couldn’t step up like I wanted him to.

“Yo, you for real right now? You’ll kill my baby over some fucking money?” he growled.

“You damn ri—” He cut my words off by grabbing me by the throat and pulling me toward him.

“Bitch, I’ll kill you if you try me like that. Did you tell Jersey that you would kill his kid? Nah, you didn’t. You kept that lil’ nigga because of who his daddy is. Try some fuck shit with my seed, and I’m killing you and your son. Don’t test me, Shan.” He threw me back toward the other end of the couch, and all I could do was suck up all the air that I could. I couldn’t believe that he’d just threatened me and my son. Crazy thing was, I believed his ass too. I couldn’t tell Jersey because he’d take Jerz, and that meant the money would stop. I guess I’d just have to suck it up and get ready to be somebody else’s baby mama.
