“I talk,” Audrey said in a funny squeaky voice, while moving the bunny forward, with her one free hand. “I like to talk. I also eat. That bagel looks yummy. Can I havesome?”
“No,” Luna said smiling. “It’s my bagel.” She took abite.
“Isitgood?”
Luna nodded yes, chewing.
“It’s a very big bagel. Can you eat it all?” Audrey asked as the bunny in ahigh-pitchedvoice as Jake returned to the room with Luna’s clothes. He raised his eyebrowsat Audrey.
“Yes.” Luna took anotherbite.
“Don’t you think Uncle Jake looks hungry?” The bunny came closer to Luna and Audrey loudly whispered in a squeaky voice as the bunny, “You better eat it quickly before Uncle Jake tries to eat it.”
Luna looked up at Uncle Jake and took her finalbite.
Audrey moved the bunny to the cup of milk and made the bunny peer into it. “Do bunnies likemilk?”
“No. Cats like milk.” Luna drankhermilk.
“Good job,” Audrey said in the bunny voice. “Now let’s get Thomas in thestroller.”
While Audrey strapped Thomas into the stroller, Jake said, “Great job, Luna and bunny.”
“That’s Bella.”
“Great job, Luna and Bella. Now let’s get you dressed.” He sat down and turned her chair to face him and helped her put on her sweatpants and a pink sparkly unicorn shirt.
Audrey loaded the various bags onto the back of the stroller. She handed Thomas a small truck to play with in thestroller.
“I like the unicorn,”Jakesaid.
“No unicorns,” Luna stamped her foot.“Nopink.”
“Pink unicorns give you special powers,”Jakesaid.
“Likewhat?”
“They can make you fly.” He picked up Luna and flew her around the room. Luna giggled excitedly. He was so natural with his niece and nephew.
“More.”
“We’ll have to fly to school if you don’t hurry up,” hesaid.
“No unicorn.” Luna crossed her arms. “My best friend Lucy doesn’t likepink.”
“Pink is a great color,” Audreysaid.
“You’re not wearing pink,”Lunasaid.
“That’s true,” Audrey said. “But I do wearpink.”
“Audrey was wearing a pink top when we met,” Jake said. Their gazes met.He rememberedthat?
“No pink.” Luna shookherhead.
“Maybe you should get another shirt. C’mon Luna, let’s brush your teeth,” Audrey said. Luna took her hand trustingly, and Audrey feltflattered.
“Yes, I don’t want her to end up in therapy from the time I made her wear a pink shirt. But personally, I think she should ditch this Lucy,”Jakesaid.
