DC meant the president.
Here meant…Elizabeth.
She was the most powerful Fed this side of the country, and with that came the stress that would make or break her.
“We’ve got this,” she said, trying to convince herself as much as she was trying to convince them. Everyone needed to be onboard.
EVERYONE.
As soon as the vehicle was parked, she focused on Ivan.
“I need you to update me on the kids,” she said. “Please make sure they are safe.”
He was to the point.
“They will be. We have Secret Service not far away. They just got into position to make sure Coraline and Oliver are okay.”
That helped a little.
And any bit counted.
While she wasn’t a fan of the Secret Service, thanks to a history of issues with them, she was a fan of them helping keep Coraline and Oliver safe.
They would make sure the first daughter and first grandson were protected.
Or asses would be chewed.
Oh, and badges lost.
“Good. Give them whatever they need. I’m not going to start shit with them as long as they do their job.”
Callen hated to bother her with something.
“As a heads-up, Angel, it’s only a matter of time before the council asks to see us. They’ll notice the presence on the rez, and want a face-to-face meeting to discuss everything.”
Oh, she was aware.
The legacy of Timothy only got them so far.
They’d only tolerate so much before they were cranky about it. She was going to have to do the dance with them at some point.
“Do you want me to call them, and talk to them about the situation?” Callen asked. “Going to them is going to make them far more considerate of the situation than letting them find two Secret Service dudes hiding in a van on the side of the road.”
She laughed.
Yeah, he had a point on that one.
It was good to see that Callen was already thinking like the FBI liaison.
Good for him.
And her.
“Of course, they won’t blend in,” she stated. “And yes, contact them. See if the Chief Redbear will give us a little leeway on this one. We’re going to need to do the dance for a while in order to get back in their good graces.”
He would.
It appeared he was back to being on duty.
