He feared telling them.
There was still that little piece of them that whispered into his psyche that he was not worthy.
And that if he fractured the family, by dividing them between two cities, their marriage would crumble.
Elizabeth had Callen and Chris.
He had Gene.
What if it…broke.
If that was on him, he’d never recover. He lost Elizabeth once, and it had been devastating.
“If you can’t tell them, Ethan, and be honest, maybe you shouldn’t be there then. Maybe it’s you trying to escapesomething or this isn’t the right time. Until you can look into Elizabeth’s eyes and tell them what you need, you aren’t ready.”
He understood.
“Thank you for letting me talk it out,” he said.
She was curious.
“What are you going to do?”
That was a good question.
Honestly, he wasn’t sure.
What he did know, though, was he likely was going to fuck it up.
Like always.
The Blackhawk leopard didn’t change its spots.

Joseph Thunderfoot’s
Home
Thursday Mid-Morning
Ten A.M.
As they pulled up, it was clear that, they were going to at least have their interview. Someone was definitely home.
Outside, two Natives were sitting in the man’s yard, two beers in their hands.
Well, someone wanted to have a morning drink to cool off in the sun.
Early drinking seemed to be common today.
Then again, it had been two long days for her too. She could use a big glass of wine, some prescription meds, and chocolate.
All at once.
“We got lucky,” Rayna admitted. “That’s both of them together.”
That made this easier, and Elizabeth knew it.
