How much Chris and Callen did too.

“I can’t ask this of you. I can’t take this away from you for me.”

She was honest.

“You’re not asking. You’re not taking. We’re giving freely. We would all rather be here with you than across the country without you. We’re a family. This,” she said, pointing at the five of them, “It’s the foundation. You and I aren’t what holds it together. We are just two bricks. WeALLhold it together. It’s all or nothing on this journey, and we’re an‘all as one’kind of people.”

His heart skipped in his chest.

“I got you, Bro,” Callen said. “Dibs on the bigger half of the closet in the new place.”

Chris sighed.

“Just because I wear scrubs doesn’t mean I don’t have suits, CJ. If you get the closet, I get dibs on some garage space. I’m getting my car sent here. I like having date night with EJ in that car.”

Ethan’s heart skipped.

He didn’t know what to say.

Finally, she spoke.

“Over my goddamn dead body am I leaving my husband behind,” she said. “It isNEVERgoing to happen. I’m glad you were honest with us. Just remember, I’m still getting a goddamn beach vacation. After we get Wyler to his doctor, and get back.”

He couldn’t believe this.

Know who could?

Gene.

He wasn’t the least bit shocked, and this was exactly why he wanted Ethan to take this chance.

This family was built on love.

Because he needed it, Elizabeth moved closer.

As she did, Ethan saw the tenacity that was always there in her. Ethan wished he could be half as tenacious and as good a human being as she was.

Elizabeth had a superpower.

It was love.

She continued.

“If you need to be the Shaman, then I’m going to be the shaman’s wife.”

Beside her, Chris spoke up.

“And I’m going to be the shaman’s husband,” he said, holding up his finger with the ring Ethan slipped onto it a few years ago.

And then Callen followed suit.

“Then I’m going to be the shaman’s brother who just happens to be so much more handsome and not a big pussy when it comes to his needs.”

The tears slipped, and Ethan walked toward them. He honestly couldn’t carry this burden.

He simply didn’t have it since finding out what had happened in Philly.

Ethan Jackson Blackhawk needed his family to prop him up until he could heal.
