Jax finished his food and reached over to steal one of my fries but I slapped his hand away. He raised his eyebrows at me. “Not big on sharing?”

I blushed so hard that I covered my face with my hands and groaned. “I’m so sorry! I’m used to eating with my brothers and you have to be on guard around them or you’ll lose half your dinner every time.”

Jax pulled my hands away from my face and held up one of my french fries for me. I reached for it but he shook his head. Understanding what he wanted, I leaned forward with my face burning even hotter. I slowly opened my mouth and let him feed me. His fingertips brushed my lips and without thinking I licked my lips and his fingertips in the process.

He gripped my chin and ran his thumb over my mouth next, expecting and getting the same treatment. I was so unsure of myself and what was happening that I decided to lean into teasing him. I pulled his hand down and leaned over the table with a flirty grin.

“You-” Whatever I was going to say was lost when Jax stretched forward and brushed his lips over mine. I sucked in a sharp breath and felt the kiss all the way down to my toes, even as innocent as it was. He pressed his mouth to mine again and sent butterflies fluttering through my stomach like a storm.

The sounds around us started to fade just as I leaned forward a little too far and my tit knocked over my half-empty glass of water. I flew back in my seat and groaned. It was humiliating. I didn’t even know what I was doing, kissing Jax, but if I was going to do it, I sure didn’t want to end it by being a klutz.

When I glanced up Jax had a smirk on his lips that made me want to punch him in the throat. He looked proud of how much he’d affected me. That just made me want to prove that he hadn’t.

I stood up, moved around to his side, and leaned over, being sure to flash him a lot of cleavage as I did. “I’m going to go dance. Maybe some big tough guy will join me and show me a good time.”

Just when he leaned forward like he was going to kiss me again, I spun away with a laugh. I was by myself on the dancefloor again but it was fine with me. I twisted to face Jax as I moved, turning the slow country song into something sensual. I couldn’t see his exact facial expression but I knew it was intense. So intense that I was thankful when the song changed to something faster.

Instead of dancing alone the whole time I looked around and spotted an old man sitting with a group of middle-aged men. He grinned so sweetly when I looked his way that I decided to askhim to dance. He laughed when he saw me coming his way and started to shake his head but I pretended to lasso him and when I pretended to drag him closer he actually climbed to his feet and pretended to let me drag him over. The table of men he was with all laughed good naturedly and cheered him on.

One of them even started a chant. “Go, Grandpa, go!”

The old man’s smile was so heart-warming that I couldn’t help grinning back at him. He surprised me by taking my hand and spinning me away from him before twisting me back even faster. I laughed wildly as he caught me and dipped me with ease.

“Where’d you learn to dance like this?!”

He winked at me. “My late wife loved to dance.”

I wrapped my arms around his shoulders as he led us around the floor. “And you learned for her?”

“A man will do anything and everything for the women he loves, sweetheart.” He twisted me out again and let me go. His eyes sparkled when I stumbled into a hard wall of muscle. “Time for me to let your man prove his worth.”

I looked up at Jax and the look in his eyes took my breath away. He held me close and nodded to the man behind me.

“Thank you, sir. I think I heard Sandy mention coming over to let you spin her around the floor.” Jax twisted me away clumsily and let his hands rest low on my back, just over my ass. He dipped his head to speak next to my ear. “If I spin you like he did, we’re both probably going down.”

I let out a real giggle and beamed up at him. “Try anyway. If we fall, we fall. I’ll break your fall, golden boy.”

He pulled me tighter against his body and growled. “You’re not breaking my fall, Sav. Do you think that man would’ve let his woman break his fall?”

Wrapping my arms around his neck, I played with the ends of his hair. “I’m not your woman, though.”

His eyes darkened and one of his hands slid lower, gripping a handful of my ass for just a beat before sliding back up. “Maybe you are tonight.”

Then I didn’t want the night to end. “Spin me then, handsome.”

He didn’t drop me. We didn’t go down. He wasn’t as smooth as my first dance partner but when he yanked me close again I could feel that he was just as affected as I was and that made up for the bumpiness.

The song shifted into something even faster and Jax slowly came alive right before my eyes. He spun me more freely and dipped me until we moved together effortlessly. It was the most fun I could remember having in too long.

***Jax***

Ididn’t think about football, my dad, Blaire, or anything else stressful while dancing with Savannah. Her carefree smile infected me until I was grinning just as wide as she was. We both ignored the way my dick was attempting to escape my pants to get to her. We moved around the dancefloor without a care. At least I didn’t have a care. For the first time in longer than I could remember I didn’t have a care in the world. I wasn’t stressed or worried. I was just…having fun.

Savannah wasn’t who I’d assumed she was. Seeing her charm everyone and anyone around her made me wonder why she’d shown us such a different side before. It was almost like she’d been playing a character, an unlikeable character. The woman staring up at me with a wide grin on her face, sweat peppering her upper lip and forehead, was more than likeable. She was fucking dangerous.

I knew that I had to go back to my normal life once we got back to campus but I couldn’t make myself head towards the door. I wanted to steal as much time with her as I could before it ended and we both went back to whoever we were on campus.

Her hair stuck to her skin around her face and sagged to the side of her head as it slipped free of her knot she’d put it in. Her makeup was smeared. The silky material of her dress bunched in places as it stuck to her skin. She was a mess. She’d never looked hotter.
