“Thank you.”

He leads me up the stairs and points out a bathroom before announcingwith a sweep of his hand, “And these are the bedrooms.Four of them.”

Bedrooms, huh?I smile at him deviously.“Which oneis yours? You know, for future reference.”

His nostrils flare and his eyes are suddenly darker.Nottaking them off me, he points it out.

“That one at the end.”

“Cool.”

I throw him a seductive stare over my shoulder as I make myway back downstairs. He stands at the top, watching as I descend.Back on thefirst floor, I move to the sliding doors which lead to a swimming pool.

“You swim a lot?”I ask when he walks up behind me.

“When I can.It’s good exercise.”

I look over his body and have to agree. He’s wearing anotherone of those T-shirts that hugs his torso, and jeans that show off hisass-ets.

“It sure is.”

He chuckles and takes a step forward.“You’re something else, you know that?”

I move closer to him and trail my finger down his sternum.“Ilike you, Sheriff.I don’t see the need to be coy or play games.”

“You like me?”

“I thought that was obvious.”

“Like is a very…safeword.”

“Who knows?”I shrug.“Maybe it’ll change by the end of thenight.I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”

“I guess so.”

“Now, where is this steak you promised me?”

***Ethan***

I can’t keep my eyes off her. This waiting is killing me.Ifshe were a wolf, she would have been mine already. No, sheismine; Ijust have to make her see it.I stand by the grill, next to the pool, and watchher as she moves around the kitchen making the salad. She fits in perfectly, and all this feels soright. This gives me a glimpse into what our lifewill be like and I can’t wait. She walks out and waves at me as she sits on oneof the sun lounges.I remove the steaks and potatoes from the grill and headtoward her.

“Let’s eat.”

She gives me a smile that tells me she bit back what shewanted to say, and I shake my head. She follows me inside and helps me set thetable.

“You have a dirty mind, Miss Bryan.”

“I didn’t say anything.”

“You didn’t have to.”

“Well, if you know what I was thinking, then I guess youhave a dirty mind also, Sheriff McKenzie.”

“With two dirty minds like ours, we could get into sometrouble.”

“You’ll get no arguments from me.”

I sit across from her and watch her green eyes sparkle.“Ibet I won’t.Dig in.”
