“I have things to do.Stop whining.”

“Ugh!Fine.”

Once his pants and undershirt are on, he tosses me a T-shirtand some pajama bottoms.

“Put those on.”

“Why?”

“You’ll see.”

I hear a sound approaching and walk to the window. There’s aconstruction truck heading this way.I glance at him suspiciously, but he justsmiles and continues to get dressed.I pull my clothes on, watching him theentire time.

“Are you building something?”

“Come,” he says yet again. Will he ever just answer aquestion?

I take his outstretched hand, and he leads me downstairs.Outside, there are men unloading equipment and supplies in the driveway.

“What’s going on?”

“Well,” he says, “for one, I’m renovating the front yard.”

“Okay….”

A smiling man—the foreman, I assume—walks over to us andshakes Ethan’s hand.

“Sheriff.Morning, ma’am.”

“Good morning.”

“Casey, this is Joe.He’s going to be responsible for therenovation.”

“Nice to meet you.”

“You, too.I believe this is yours.”

He hands me a rolled-up sheet of paper and walks offwhistling a happy tune. What the hell is going on?Out of the corner ofmy eye, I see Ethan grinning.I unroll the paper and find the plan for the newfront yard.I scan it quickly but freeze when I notice the focal point.Iscream in excitement.

“You’re building me a fountain?”

Tossing the paper over my shoulder, I launch myself into hisarms, wrapping my legs around his hips.He lets out a deep-throated laugh andspins me around while I pepper his face with kisses, shouting “Thank you!”inbetween them.

“You’re welcome, sweetheart.”

“I love you!”

“I love you, too. Now, let me show you the plans.”

I slide down, hopping from foot to foot like an over-excitedchild as he retrieves the blueprint.

“It’s going to be right there in the middle of the yard,” hesays, pointing it out.

Next, he points to the drawing, and I give him my fullattention.

“This will be the pool of the fountain. It will besurrounded by a hedge, but you can choose the flowers or whatever you wantthere. Then the hedge will be surrounded by a bench where you can sit if youwish.”

“Cool!”
