“You’re not the type of woman a man plays with. You’re the type who gets a cut, the type he brings home to his parents, the type who gets a ring and everything that comes with it. That’s what you are, not a toy to have fun with and then discard when it gets boring.”
“Oh, Jon….”
Her gaze softens, and she leans in, placing her palms on my chest once more. It’s been a long time since a woman has used my real name, whispered it so softly. She licks her lips, and all of a sudden all I want to do is kiss them.
Suck them.
Devour them.
I don’t know where the urge came from, but it’s taking everything in me to resist it. Stepping forward, I push her against the car. Her hands slide up my chest and curl around my neck, her breaths coming in short puffs. Having her body against me is drilling holes in my willpower, but I can’t give in.
“Let me ask you again. Do you like me?”
“I do. This isn’t me being thirsty for attention. This….” She shudders, closing her eyes. “I haven’t felt these kinds of sensations in a long time.” Her lids flutter open. “Do you… doyoulike me?”
I press my hips into her to prove just how much I like her, smiling when she gasps. “What do you think?”
“I think we’re two people who are extremely in like with each other.” I chuckle, brushing her hair out of her face. “Maybe you should kiss me. You know, to see if it’s real.”
“Not yet, beautiful. If we’re going to do this, we’re doing it right.”
“What do you mean?”
I step away, giving my dick room to breathe. Her hands fall to her sides, her eyes shooting disappointment my way.
“I’m not into playing games, Ellen. It’s either a hundred percent or zero.”
“Oh.” Her eyes fall to the pavement.
“Do you have any plans for Thursday night?” I ask.
“Why?”
“It’s my day off, and I’d love to take you to dinner.”
“Okay.” She meets my gaze once more.
“Find a sitter for Mikey. I’ll pick you up at seven.”
“Okay.” She smiles, then bites her bottom lip.
I’m a fool. I could be biting that lip myself right now. Instead, I’m heading home to an empty bed yet again.
My phone goes off, and I pull it out of my pocket, seeing a message from the hospital.Shit.One thing I’m definitely looking forward to is better working hours once I get my office up and running.
“I’m on call. I have to head back to the hospital. Do you want to stay, or would you like a ride home?”
“I’ll stay. Rambo’s coming to pick us up.”
“Let me walk you back inside.”
As we head back to the bar, she takes my hand, threading her fingers through mine. When I turn my head to look at her, she blushes and averts her gaze. I smile, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.
Janet grins as we approach. “I thought you two ditched me.”
“Not a chance,” I tell her. “Take care of her, okay?”
“You got it, Mr. VP.”
