DAKOTA: I contacted my OB and gave them your info. They’re going to call you!!

Before I can even respond, my phone rings with a local Thunder Rock number. Sliding my thumb across the screen, I hold it to my ear, unsure that this could actually be the doctor’s office.

“Hello, this is Thunder Rock OB-GYN. We received a message that you would like to make an appointment.”

Holy shit, that was fast.

“Um, yes, I would,” I confirm. “I’m pregnant. I haven’t had any prenatal care, but I think I’m a little over three months along.”

“Perfect timing, then,” she quips. “We had a cancellation for an hour from now. Can you make it?”

I gladly accept the time, probably a little too excitedly. She takes my information down, then says she’ll see me soon before she ends the call. Holy shit. I can’t believe I actually have an appointment… today.

Quickly, I open the messaging app to respond to Dakota.

Thank you sssooo much! They already called me and could get me in TODAY! You are a lifesaver!!

DAKOTA: You’re more than welcome! I am so excited to have a new friend, and I know that Nathan is going to love his new playmate!!

I grin as I sink my teeth into my flesh and try to hide my smile. Then I decide there’s no reason to hide my smile, so I release my lip and just smile. After finishing my breakfast, I go in search of Chase, hoping to find him here at the clubhouse.

I send him a text as I continue to look for him, but he’s nowhere to be seen. I look almost everywhere until I run into the man who looks exactly like him. But he definitely doesn’t look at me the way Chase does. Goose crosses his arms over his chest, dipping his chin slightly as he looks down his nose and into my face.

“Have you seen or talked to Chase?” I ask.

His brows rise, his arms drop, and he tilts his head to the side. “He went out with Piggy, why?”

“I have an appointment, and I need to be there in less than an hour.”

Goose looks over his shoulder behind him, as if there is going to be an answer to my issue there. Then he shifts his attentionback to me. I watch as he arches a brow and tilts his head slightly.

“I’ll take you. Get ready. Meet you out in the parking lot.”

And then he brushes past me and walks out of the bar. He doesn’t ask me where my appointment is. He just tells me he’s taking me, and that is that. I watch him go, staring at the closed door long after he’s gone, and wonder if this is what it’s like to have someone who cares.

Even in the harshness that is Goose, I know he’s not really sure about me yet, but he’s sure about his brother. It’s beautiful. I hope that one day, he can be sure about me and think of me as a sister.

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE

MAVERICK

The black carpulls up to the front of the building. Ivy is waiting just inside the door, gun in hand, and Cidney is hiding, locked in his office. Piggy is just a few feet away, hugged up beside the building, gun in hand, posted up and ready.

The driver opens the door, and I watch him unfold. I know who it is before I even see his face. My lips twitch into a smirk because he’s still got some bruising where I punched his goddamn lights out. That’s fucking amazing.

“Kyle Alexander,” I drawl.

He jerks his chin and tries to look down his nose at me, but he can’t because he’s about six inches shorter than I am, so he has to look up at me… which again, is great. Continuing to smile, I watch as he closes the distance between us, his eyes narrowing on mine as he looks up.

“You came all this way. How may I help you?” I ask.

It’s not too far, only a few hours, but I want to make sure he realizes that I know he actually went out of his way to comehere, and I think it’s stupid as fuck. At least my visit to him made sense. I already know that this is going to be lame.

“You came into my place of business, then stalked me to my home and attacked me,” he states.

“Okay.” I wonder what his fucking point is.

“It’s my turn.”
