It took stepping onto their tippy toes, and it only worked because their weight sent Casimir back a half-step onto the brick wall, but Tsunis growled against their mate’s temple. “Consider it already done.”

An alarm honked behind them, quickly accompanied by Sophie’s voice. “Get in, losers! Before you impregnate everyone in the fucking bar.” She rolled up the window with a fake gagging noise.

Casimir grasped Tsunis’ wrist before they removed it, then kissed their knuckles. It was one of the small movements he did often, which Tsunis was utterly smitten with.

It didn’t matter what realm they were in. Tsunis would see their mate with a rounded pouch, if only for spite.

Chapter Fourteen

Casey

Casey couldn’t keep his hands off Tsunis in the rideshare. Every flick of their hair, every twitch of their ever-present scowl. The way their lean but muscular thighs looked in those damned fishnets. The lingering sparkle in their pale eyes when their gazes locked. It all reminded him of the high he experienced on stage watching Tsunis dance to the song he never could’ve come up with without them.

The only thing that could possibly tear Casey’s attention from the wonder wrapped under his arm was the very specific ding of his phone. An email notification. One glance at the sender’s name, a brief scan of the email, and his heart soared straight through the roof of the random vehicle shuttling them home.

“Casey, you fucking monster!” Sophie’s voice was shrill with intoxication. “Fuck you!”

Tsunis’ hand squeezed Casey’s knee. Casey stuffed his phone away and kissed their temple, chuckling at the rumbling growl that was imperceptible to anyone not touching them.

“Settle down, Sophie, you’re scaring the driver,” Casey scolded. The stoic driver chuffed, his salt-and-pepper beard bristling.

“No, for real, fuck you, Casey.” Sophie giggled, total unaware of the murder rising in Casey’s lover. Mate. Partner?

“Why you mad?” Casey prodded.

“She’s pissed you thought of that song, and she didn’t.” Noah answered before glugging down half a bottle of water.

“Yes!” Sophie shouted. “I’m fucking livid. I’m, like, homicidal.”

“Sophie.” All eyes snapped to Tsunis at the bloodlust in their tone. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time together and consider you and your mate some of my only friends in this realm.” Gratitude melted the tension in Sophie’s shoulders, but Tsunis wasn’t done. “However, if harming Casimir so much as crosses your mind, human, you’ll find your lungs full of water and your body so far below the waves that it shall never be found.”

A hush fell over the car, other than the driver’s shocked cough that morphed into gasps for breath. Casey’s own breathing shouldn’t be competing in the Olympic uneven bars right now, but there was an undeniable sweetness to Tsunis’ outburst on his behalf.

Casey grasped Tsunis’ face with both hands and kissed them hard and fast, ready to be out of this fucking car.

“She’s just fucking with me,” he whispered, flicking his tongue out to lick their fin and relishing the way Tsunis’ grip on his knee grew claws.

“Forgive me. I’m not well versed in this realm’s humor.” Tsunis tipped their chin. “But know I stand by my words.”

Sophie’s eyes widened, but by the time they ripped from Tsunis to meet Casey’s, her lips were rounded in a perfectO, and Casey immediately recalled some of the flirty language in the fantasy romance books she’d shared off her shelves after learning of the whole mate situation.

Was Sophie unhinged enough to start shit just to compare the outcome to her romance books? Whatever. He didn’t care. In his mind, Tsunis dominated that little test of hers.

“Your place or mine?” Casey murmured against Tsunis’ jaw. He flattened his tongue on the soft skin there, eliciting a hiss. “I’m hoping for yours.”

Tsunis gave a tight nod.

Another email notification rang out from his pocket, and Casey’s attention split. Covering his pocket protectively with one hand, he slid the other around Tsunis’ waist and impatiently waited for alone time with his mate.

Casey and Tsunis managed to say their goodbyes before stalking into the woods behind Sophie’s apartment complex. They locked lips and tugged at clothes until they reached the water. In a tangle of limbs and a confusing flash of light, Casey found himself surrounded by lilies before his dragon mate submergedthem completely. It felt as if he’d become pure liquid, joining the stream like he’d seen Tsunis do before.

Casey’s back slammed against the stone wall of the tranquil spring he’d tracked Tsunis to a lifetime ago. The thought of that day sent carnal need quaking up his spine. He knew the power Tsunis held over him and wasn’t ready to succumb just yet. Before they could open those perfectly fuckable lips, Casey took control. He reversed their positions, crowding Tsunis and rubbing his aching erection against their hip. While Casey was strong for a human, he’d experienced Tsunis’ incredible strength often enough to know when they were letting him use them like a rag doll. This was one of those times.

“I watched you in that skimpy skirt all night, baby, dancing to our song, giving me those fuck-me eyes. You like being a little slut for me, don’t you? Listen close, because I’m not fucking repeating myself.” Casey used one hand to tug and tease at their left earfin without mercy while his other traveled to their legs, parting their thighs enough to shimmy his own in between. He rubbed their dripping slit, coating himself in the slickness there, more viscous than the water. “Come for me, my pretty little dragon, because I’m going to fuck you so hard you won’t be able to frown for weeks.”

Tsunis growled, but Casey took that opportunity to slide a finger between their budding slit, coaxing out a couple of tentacles, which he played with between two fingers until they cinched around his wrist. More promptly followed, dripping, searching, latching onto him.

“Y-you’re lucky you’re cute,” Tsunis panted. They were tilted into his hand, leaning heavily like a cat butting their head for attention. Their lean biceps cloaked the sides of the stone wall, fists clenched so tight their knuckles were pale.
