His eyes meet mine and a smile warms his face. Is he as happy to see me as I am him?Rein it in, girl. You’re not a couple. You really aren’t anything. Relax. This is my mind telling my pussy to chill the fuck out.

I am so engrossed in him that I didn’t even notice Marc was standing in the kitchen, too. “Hey, you two.” I finally managed to get out.

“Hey, Peyton,” Marc says from the other side of the kitchen island and my eyes bounce to his.

You can certainly tell they are brothers with how much the two of them look alike. Thomas is slightly taller than Marc with broader shoulders and built like a brick, where Marc is leaner with softer features around the edges. There’s no doubt that both of them are built on muscle. They just carry it differently. You can also tell that Marc is the sweeter of the two brothers. He is definitely a mama’s boy.

“Hey, you,” Thomas says next with a grin spreading across his face. Yes, he’s happy to see me. “How was James today?”

Deciding to save the conversation James and I had together for later when no one else is home, I reply, “He was great. We did crafts and he made that picture hanging on the fridge.”

He moves to look at the masterpiece. “Wow, he did great.”

“I love how organized you are with the crafts, Mr. Ford,” I say to him and watch his face morph into a scowl at my use ofMr. Fordwith a room full of people. I am totally going to pay for that later.I hope.

“Totally,” Avery chimes in. “Love the bag of D’s.” His head tilts in confusion at her. “You know, the tiny bags you have for the alphabet crafts. You have a bag of D’s in there.”

“Get your fucking head out of the gutter, Avery,” Kali says with another arm smack.

“Marc,” Avery sniffles a laugh. “Don’t you dare put in an HR complaint over me. I’m off the clock.”

Marc and Thomas both shake their head and laugh before Marc says to Thomas, “What are you making for dinner, fuck face?”

“I was thinking about ordering out,” Thomas says to him before he looks back over at us. “Do you girls want to stay for dinner?”

The three of us look at each other in one of our silent conversations where we understand what each other is saying before anything is even said out loud. After confirmation from them, I look back at him. “Yeah, sure. We would love to hang around for dinner.”

“Old Jose tacos?” he asks, holding up the menus and a grin on his face. My heart begins beating rapidly because he knows how much I love that place for their vegan options.

“Yes,” all three of us say in unison and the biggest smile becomes plastered on my face. I couldn’t even hide it if I tried.

“I’ll get the tequila,” Avery adds.

This is certainly gearing up to be one interesting night in the penthouse.

My work from home ended up being crazier than expected. We had a mess on our hands with a property in downtown Manhattan that the seller wanted to pull out of. I had to call in Marc to help me fix the mess. I ended up dropping ten grand more than I wanted to, but I know the property will fix up well and in turn, make me much more than I put out when Marc sells it.

With that being said, tacos and good company are exactly what I need after this day. Eddy dropped the food off right after I put James to bed. Avery had poured some tequila and lime for the girls, and I poured some whiskey for Marc and I.

“Marc, what the hell do you have against avocados?” Avery snickers.

“It looks like fucking mashed baby food on a taco, Avery,” he scoffs. “How the hell anyone can eat that is beyond me.”

Avery proceeds to shove a giant bite of taco loaded with avocados in her mouth. She moans in delight as she overexaggerates her chewing. “Yum, fucking mashed baby food is the best. You’re totally missing out, Otis.”

“Otis?” He laughs in question.

“Yeah.” She laughs back. “You’re totally an Otis.”

“Whatever the fuck that means,” he scoffs.

“It means what it means.” She shrugs her shoulders.

“I don’t understand how your brain works, Trudy,” Marc snaps back.

“Trudy?” A deep laugh erupts from her. “That’s actually a good one. I can live with that.” Marc just shakes his head and laughs at her. These two are complete opposites and it’s hysterical watching them go back and forth with each other. I can only imagine these two in the office. “You know Trudy and Otis get married on that cop show on TV.”

“I wouldn’t marry you if you were the last person on the face of the earth.” Marc laughs at her.
