My body shakes with emotion and my Omega instincts are out of control. I can feel a purr bubbling in my chest, preparing to slip into O-space to soothe the hurt Alphas. I want to make sure Viper knows how much his feelings matter to me.
I don’t get a chance.
The Alphas stiffen and focus on something behind me. Footsteps rustling in the forest undergrowth draw near.
Shade.
It’s too late to warn him.
The moment Shade enters the camp, Blaze moves too fast for my eyes to track. He slams into Shade, knocking him to the hard ground and pinning him with his powerful thighs. He rears his fist back and punches Shade in the face with a deafening crack.
“You touched her!”
Blood spills from Shade’s nose. He blinks up at his attacker with shock and something like acceptance. He groans, bracing himself, but he doesn’t try to scramble away. Blaze lands a blow to his gut with a dull thud as he roars, “Traitor!”
Blood splatters across Shade’s face, streaming from his nose, staining his teeth red as he winces in pain.
“Stop it!” I shout, racing towards the fight. I get two steps before a scarred arm slips around my waist like a belt, pulling mefirmly up against a firm chest. Viper snarls in my ear a warning to stop resisting.
“Get her out of here,” I hear Knox say to Viper, but I’m not listening. I’m thrashing to get to Blaze and Shade.
Both of them are in agony. Shade’s bloody face is the physical embodiment of the betrayal pulsing through Blaze. I finally see the savage nature Blaze has kept locked under the surface. He’s a wild beast, unrestrained and furious.
I did that. I hurt them.
Make it stop. Help your mates,my Omega begs.
I kick my legs back. I’m so short compared to him that my heels only manage to make contact with Viper’s knees. He barely flinches, effortlessly restraining me like a disobedient child.
My heart hurts. I hate this. I hate I did this to them.
This group of soldiers has a bond with a depth I’ll never understand. Forged through trauma and bloodshed. They act more like brothers than colleagues.
I have to stop this.
I’m going to use my Omega Command.
Chapter Forty-Three
Halley
I summon the familiar drifting fog until it shimmers at my periphery, heralding O-space, the gateway to my mysterious Omega Command. My instincts deepen, and the softness of my inner Omega drags at my consciousness.
With Shade’s confirmation, I know the softness is not vulnerability. It hides a power to enthrall even the most stubborn of Alphas. An Omega answer to the fearsome Alpha Command. I’ve yet to discover just what Omega Command can do.
I’ve spent the last few weeks experimenting with it. Making little requests with a hint of my O-space influence behind it. It’s their fault, after all. If only they’d included me in the discussion after the chase, I wouldn’t have resorted to such subterfuge.
I’m done experimenting.
I want to see what I canreallydo.
I turn my head slightly, just enough to tilt my head back and look up at Viper. I gasp as I recognize the red spidery veinscrawling from the corner of his wide, staring green eyes and down his cheeks.
Blood Lust.
I don’t think. I act.
“Viper. Calm down.”
