I beam, and the weight that has been sitting on my shoulders since I met this woman lifts.

She pulls out a bright pink pen from her cardigan pocket and a large sticker with a unicorn on it. She flips over the sticker and writes her number on the paper backing.

“Sorry, I left my phone on my desk and this is all I have to write on,” she explains before waving goodbye and disappearing into the classroom.

Walking home, I hold on to that sparkly unicorn for dear life.

Chapter Four

Jen, you’re the best.

What did you do, Special Case?

Nothing.

But just an FYI, you’re having a Christmas party this Saturday.

Excuse me?

Yeah, I’m bringing Nevaeh as a date, so if you could serve some first date kinda food, that would be great.

I’m actually going to kill you.

But then you’ll deprive your son’s teacher of the love of her life and she’ll spiral into a mess of destructive behaviors that will eventually affect her ability toteach the next generation! Think of poor Oscar and his education.

You are actually the worst.

But you still love me?

??

??????

Yes. Fine. I love you, you giant asshole.

Merry Christmas!

Chapter Five

Today is the last day of school before the holiday break, and the first graders are throwing a Christmas carol concert. Instead of our usual morning routine, little Oscar is holding a hand of each of his parents and I’m trailing behind. He hasn’t stopped speaking about the concert all morning, and I’m genuinely concerned the little dude is going to lose his voice before the big performance.

Entering the classroom behind Jen and Mike, my eyes immediately lock onto the tiny Omega fluttering around the room. She’s busy meeting parents, fielding questions from the kids, fixing the set decorations, and getting ready for the show. I don’t miss the way some Alphas track her movements with a predatory glint in their eyes. I clench my hands into fists to contain my possessive instincts.

The whole concert is exactly what you’d expect from a group of six-year-olds, pure unbridled chaos. Yet, everyone in the cramped room claps and sings along cheerfully. I try to keep myeyes off the sexy teacher and focus on the show, but she’s utterly captivating. I don’t know why she’s worried about me being a hurricane when she effortlessly controls a tornado of madness daily.

The performance wraps up and I give Oscar a whooping standing ovation, much to Jenny’s embarrassment. He runs through the crowd and I spin him around and around as I tell him how proud I am.

I don’t stick around to talk to Nevaeh. She’s too busy for any distractions right now. Instead, as I’m leaving the classroom, I drop a package wrapped in Christmas paper on my favorite teacher’s desk with a note.

Nevaeh,

Merry Christmas! Feliz Navidad! Happy Holidays! I realize now that I don’t know if you celebrate the holiday season. Just one more thing to discuss on our date tomorrow night. However, I like to think that I know you a teeny tiny bit. I hope this will bring you reassurance and comfort when doubts slip in.

Before you open the package, I have a confession. I may have knicked your scarf a few weeks back, so consider this as compensation for that thievery. I eagerly anticipate your punishment for such naughty behavior.

Your Alpha,

Casey
