I lick my lips and shuffle closer, inexplicably drawn to her like a moth a flame. “Tell it to me and I will.”

“It’s Nevaeh.”

Of course it fucking is. Heaven spelled backwards. I knew my Omega was a goddamn angel. A fresh waft of her perfume fans from the Omega, and I fight back a groan. My wolf’s urging meto give into my instincts, bury my face in the juncture between her shoulder and neck, and inhale her sweet perfume straight from the source. Instead, I grit my teeth and, through sheer willpower, keep my demeanor teasing and friendly. “Nevaeh Shields. I like it. Not even gonna ask if it hurt when you fell from heaven.”

Her eyes sparkle with mirth and my heart swells with pleasure. “You wouldn’t be the first to use that line.”

Omega is pleased, my wolf grumbles within, and suddenly he’s on board with my strategy to woo the Omega.Keep Omega calm. Protect Omega.

“I prefer to avoid clichés and use my own material.”

Nevaeh tilts her head, like a curious pup, and asks, “Just another way you’re impressive?”

I nod and shoot her a cheeky wink. “Now you’re catching on. Glad you think so.”

“You do realize you’re flirting with me in front of a room full of pups with enhanced hearing.”

“They’re not paying attention. That one is licking his butthole,” I tease, pointing to a shifted wolf with brown fur absolutely going to town on himself. “Besides, you’re flirting back in front of your students.”

Nevaeh flushes the prettiest shade of pink and squirms on the spot like she’s been caught doing something scandalous. I’ll gladly be the one to dole out her punishment, if she’ll let me.

“Drop off time has finished, Mr.…” She pauses with an expectant expression.

“Frazer,” I reply helpfully. “Same as Oscar, but I wanna hear my first name on your lips. It’s Casey, remember?”

She actually chokes on her spit, and my smirk broadens. No matter how gentle I will try to be with her feelings, I’m not a subtle Alpha. I don’t beat around the bush and I don’t lie. I don’twant to spook her, but I won’t leave Nevaeh with a single doubt as to my intentions towards her.

“I — um — I need to get class started.”

“Not so fast.” I cross my arms.

“Excuse me?” she asks, her brows raising.

“You haven’t answered my question.”

“Which question would that be?”

“The one about getting a drink to discuss my impressiveness,” I say, flashing my most charming smile in my arsenal, my eye teeth elongated. Several sources have told me this smile could charm the pants off just about anybody. And it had. I’m counting on it working once again.

“Are you asking me out right now, here in a first-grade classroom? This isn’t the best time or place,” Nevaeh says, bewildered.

A bark of laughter bursts from me. I enjoy putting her off kilter more than I should. “Well then, when and where would be suitable for me to chat you up?”

“Not at my job where I teach young kids,” she says, glancing around the room, checking on the children. The one licking himself is now scooting his behind across the colorful striped rug. I just know that one will end up a politician.

“Alright, I can take a hint,” I nod, deciding to leave it for another time. “But you and I both know an Alpha can’t stay away from his Omega for too long.”

She shivers. I see it travel through her body with my enhanced eyesight, the light hairs on her exposed wrists raising and her pupils dilating.

“Your Omega?” she squeaks.

I can’t help the predatory dip in the tone of my voice. A gravelly, deep voice rumbles out of me in a passionate promise.

“Yes, Omega. You’re mine.”

Today has been the best kind of unexpected.
