“I’m your muse?” I tease.

“You’re my everything.” He says solemnly before finally taking my mouth in a kiss.

A kiss so all-consuming a meteor could shoot through the roof and we wouldn’t notice.

A kiss full of love, passion, desire, and unspoken promises.

A kiss that’s the beginning of something big, but I don’t know what.

When Wes pulls away, I feel a little dizzy.

“Well if you’re going to kiss me like that after a few days, I’d love to see how you’d kiss me after a week or two.” I tease.

“Not happening, baby.” Wes says, giving me a quick peck. “Now go get changed. Our reservation is at seven and if I keep kissing you we’ll never make it.”

I push past him, and he swats my ass playfully which makes me squeal and dart to my room.

Wes said the place has a dress code, but he isn’t dressed in black tie attire, so I slip on my light pink skater dress that has a V neckline, spaghetti straps, and flares at my hips into a circle skirt that meets the middle of my thighs. I buckle on my black block wedges and don myusual gold jewelry before coming out to meet Wes.

He looks up from where he’s scrolling on his phone and immediately puts it back in his pocket.

“GoddamnElli. You look downright edible. If I didn’t have big plans for us tonight, I’d say let’s cancel the reservation and stay in instead.” He grabs one of my hands and spins me around.

“You look pretty good yourself, Mr. Jones. What big plans do you have for us?”

“That’s for me to know, and you to find out later.” He places a gentle kiss on my hand. “Let’s go, milady. Your chariot awaits.”

He leads me out the door, making sure it’s locked before we get to the car where he opens my door for me with a little bow - like our blind date.

I don’t know what big plans he has for us, but nervous yet excited butterflies erupt in my belly with anticipation of what’s to come.

Chapter 51

Wes

Ifeel bad that I lied to Elli about being busy with writing.

While that wastechnicallytrue, I wasn’tjustwriting.

I was planning this date and buying jewelry so I can ask her a very important question.

No, notthatquestion.

Kind of that question.

Idohave a ring… but it’s not anengagementring.

I also have a necklace.

And I have a matching ring for myself if she says yes.

I hope she says yes.

I made reservations at this restaurant a week ago, and while it is a little bit out of the price range I usually go for, Brenner’sis right on the San Antonio Riverwalk and is supposed to be really good.

As we walk along Presa Street to get to the restaurant the sounds of nightlife in the city act as our background. Cars honk at each other, music plays from the different storefronts, and various stages of drunk people meander through the crowd.

Once we’re seated at a quiet table by the window that overlooks the river, Elli catches me up on her past few days. She’s been working on interviews for some new hires for the law firm, which is one of her favorite things to do, and it sounds like she’s excelled at it. The law firm doesn’t have a big turnover rate because Elli hires qualified candidates, and the firm makes sure their employees are well taken care of and happy working there.
