His head jerked down so fast to put his tight eyes with a high brow on me.Maybe I shouldn’t have said that.I gasped before I pulled myself away from his waist. With wide eyes, I looked down. His finger under my chin lifted my head, and his lips went to my ear. “Yeah, you feel that dick. Stop looking like you doubt yourself because I want the fuck out of you.”

Welp, that was settled. I was ready to go to a wedding to show off myself and my man. I had a feeling it was going to be a great day.

We arrived at the wedding just in time for the guests to be seated. When we walked into the venue, the usher stopped us. “Hey, Simonette, I’ll take you and your guests to your seats.”

I smiled as Daylen walked next to me with his hand on the small of my back. My smile dropped when she stopped at the back row. Before I could say anything, Daylen whispered in my ear. “Pick your battles, love. This is not worth the fight.”

I took a breath then allowed Rashad and Rissa to go into the row before Daylen and me. That was short-lived when Rissa’s friend came over to request that she sit next to him. She left us in our row without a second thought.

“Baby girl, why are you sitting here?” my daddy asked from the side of Daylen and me.

I leaned forward to look past Daylen, who sat at the end of the row. As I got up to embrace him, Daylen stood quickly to step out of the aisle to give me space. I hugged my daddy tightly. “Hey, Daddy. This is where the usher told us to sit.”

He did not look pleased at all. “Y’all, come on,” he instructed. We followed him as he walked to the front. Each row had eight seats. Daddy pointed to the three people in the seats that were next to him and my mother. “You three, get up and move. Those seats are taken by my daughter and her guests.”

“Excuse me!” Mrs. Doris screeched. “I do not think Simone would agree. She is the one who instructed us to sit here. I think you should consult with her.” She turned her nose up to him. This is not going to end well.

My father had been in rare form that weekend. He crossed his arms over his chest. The sharpness of his eyes could cut through a soul. “Doris, let me tell you something. Last time I checked, I had the dick in my marriage. I don’t give a fuck what Simone told you. The man who funds her lifestyle told you to get the fuck up.”

Daylen mumbled, “Well, damn,” under his breath. I couldn’t say anything with my words, but my eyes had tons to say. My mother’s other two sorors got up after his statement, but Mrs. Doris sat stoically in her seat.

“I’m not moving until Simone tells me that I need to.”

“How about I ask Linda to come sit next to you. I’ll call Carlton and let both of them know that you’re sucking Fredrick’s dick and licking his asshole on a regular occasion.” My father said all of that without a smile.

The gasp that came from everyone within earshot was dramatic. Tears laced the corners of Mrs. Doris’s eyes. Linda was one of the women who had just left the row. “Wha-what do you mean? I would never . . .”

“Shut the hell up. Your best friend pillow talks about how whorish you are. Fuck around and be divorced,” he said. Venom dripped from every syllable.

I turned my head to the sound of rushed heel sounds. “What is going on up here? Robert, this is our daughter’s wedding, and you are trying to make yourself the main character. I see where Simonette gets it from.”

Mrs. Doris stood. “Simone, I need to have a private conversation with you now. I mean right now.”

My mother’s face was torn up. She looked between my daddy, Mrs. Doris, and me. Her final stare was on my father after Mrs. Doris stomped off. “What did you do?”

After she left, my father’s smile emerged. “You all can sit. I love you, baby girl.”

He walked off like he didn’t just set the entire world on fire. I pivoted on my feet. “What the hell just happened?” I asked Daylen.

Rashad moved around us to sit in his seat. Daylen gazed at me with a smirk. “I’ll tell you what happened. Ya daddy just dragged the fuck outta his nuts.”

I wasn’t sure what was said during my mother’s conversation with Mrs. Doris, but she didn’t return to the wedding. When the wedding started, my mother took her seat with a tight face, but I still noticed the sadness there.

The wedding party came in, and I had to admit, the women were beautiful, and the men were debonair. My sister selected gowns that flattered everyone’s body. They also wore gowns that you could wear again, which was a plus.

When the music my sister selected played over the speaker while she walked in, no one stood at the instruction of the wedding planner. She was gorgeous as our father walked her down the aisle. I would never take anything away from her, regardless of how she treated me. I took the time to look at Justin. I wanted to experience his reaction, but I was perplexed by it.

There was emptiness in his eyes. I leaned into Daylen to whisper. “I hope my future husband doesn’t look at me like that when I come down the aisle. I would be devastated.”

Daylen put his arm around me. He kissed my lips. “Don’t worry. I can guarantee that won’t happen.”

“Who gives this woman to this man?” the officiant asked.

My mother stood, but my father spoke from where he stood next to my sister. He guided my sister on the platform. “Myself and her mother.”

My father sat next to my mother. It didn’t escape me when my mother reached for my father’s hand, and he discreetly moved it away. I was sure my mother wanted to maintain the appearance of a happy couple. It didn’t appear to be working for her. Surprise coursed through my body that I didn’t feel sad about their discourse.

The officiant spoke like he had a personal relationship with Lanette and Justin. He was an officiant provided by the resort. All I heard wasblah, blah, blah, blah.I made a note to myself to tell the officiant who’d perform my wedding to keep it short, cute, and sweet.
