“How is Dove?” he asks.

“She’s just fine. With her grandmas.”

“Do they plan on giving her back this evening?”

“Doubt it.”

“Well,” he says, kneeling down and tugging on my arms to get me on the blanket. “There are days I might protest, but tonight, I think I can let it go.”

I lean in and kiss him, pushing him onto his back. His arms go around me, squeezing me so tightly, I can’t draw a breath.

“Seems like your arms are fine,” I wheeze.

“Well, it has been a year,” he answers.

I decided not to mention it, but it took months for his arms to fully heal. During that time, he couldn’t shift.

We are the first in recorded history to survive an attack from the witch. I don’t know if we’re blessed or just lucky. Maybe we’re both.

I straddle Xavier’s hips with my knees, bracing my hands above his shoulders to rock back and forth, teasing him. He wraps his arms around my waist, running his hands down to grip my ass and squeeze me hard.

“Careful, tough guy,” I mutter, nibbling on his ear. “I fight back.”

“I know you do,” he answers, kissing me as he digs his fingers into my hips, grinding against me.

I put my hands on his shoulders and shove against him as I rock back and forth, feeling him getting hard underneath his clothes. Leaning forward, I tease him with kisses, laughing as he tries to throw me off.

“Not fair,” he mumbles. “This game is rigged.”

“You say that like it’s a problem.”

Before he can think of a comeback, I slip the top of my dress off, letting my breasts hang right in his face. Xavier moans, putting his hands around my waist and trying to thrust with his hips as his mouth reaches for my nipples.

Suddenly, I let go of him, dropping down and smothering him with my chest. He moans, swishing his head back and forth as I writhe against him, grinding with my hips as I slide up and down.

When I brace myself and pull away, Xavier makes a soft sound of disappointment.

“Sorry, my love, but I thought I should give you some air. You might have been about to suffocate.”

“I was going to die happy, dammit!” he says sternly. “That’s it—you’ll have to be taught a lesson!”

“Oh, no,” I say, ready to carry on the exchange, but he grabs me around the waist and throws me to the side, coming out on top and pinning me.

Xavier kisses me, holding my wrists against the ground as he sinks between my legs, pushing my thighs apart with his knees. The desire I’ve kept in check while we played surges through me, stealing my breath and making my skin tingle.

“I love you,” he whispers, breaking the kiss.

“I love you, too,” I whisper back as his mouth covers mine again. Even though the words seem inadequate, I can’t stop saying them, and neither of us ever gets tired of hearing them.

It’s a feeling that’s bigger than both of us. We fit together—mind, body, and soul. All we had to do was accept it, and it led us to happiness.

Xavier lets go of one of my hands, reaching down to open his pants. When I leave my hand exactly where he left it, he gives me a little grin.

“Aren’t you going to try to get away?”

“Nope,” I giggle. “I’m exactly where I want to be.”

“Should I let go, then?” he asks, gripping both my wrists again.
