“Ryker said it isn’t like that.”

“Yes, and that’s true, but Shad was young, and he didn’t know everything.”

“I still don’t see what this has to do with you.”

“I met him soon after he came here; I assume that it was right after Ryker left–once he found your father. I met Shad, and Ihad already been on Earth for a long time at that point. I was rather miserable. When I met Shad, I knew right away who he was, of course. He was the Prince of Embra, and my whole soul was ready to fight for our royal heirs, as we warriors do. But, Shad didn’t need me to physically fight. He needed me to fight for good, the way most people do on Earth.”

“What do you mean?”

“Use our brains and gather information on the enemy.”

“The enemy?”

“At the time, I had no idea that it was Cade, nor did Shad. I can assure you that it was a very big surprise when we realized it. Overtime, we created our little company. We found soulless Terrans and tried to help them, and then we found Terrans who believed in the Ancients. There are thousands of Terrans living here, and most of them need help.”

I already knew most of that information, but it still amazed and impressed me.

“You guys are amazing.”

“Shad is amazing. He will be a great king one day,” Keil said as he took a sip of his hot chocolate, sadness overcoming his melody.

I couldn’t help but think of Karen and Shad. If I couldn’t figure out how to bring his melody back to him, and soon, would he ever be the Shad I remembered? Or would he ever forgive himself for what he had done?

“Thank you.”

He nodded and watched me as I took my first sip of the hot chocolate. It touched my tongue and felt hot at first, as if I would not be able to taste anything for days because I hadn’t waited long enough. However, as the chocolate filled my mouth, I realized that it wasn’t going to burn me; it was just hot enough to surprise me, but not hot enough to burn. I took another sip, and the warmth flooded through me, and I wished that I couldkeep that feeling inside of me forever. But soon my mouth wasn’t hot anymore, and my body went back to its normal temperature.

“So, what really brings you here, Emma?” I looked up and poked at the cup, nervously.

“I need to train harder; I need to access these memories of Shad’s, as soon as possible. Can you teach me how to do that?”

Chapter Twenty-Six

Iwalked out from Keil’s and Shad’s house, waving goodbye to Keil, right as Shad and Ryker pulled up. Ryker was still driving Shad around when he needed it.

I paused in the driveway.

“Hey, Em, are you okay?” Ryker asked as he shut the front driver’s side door and walked over to me.

“I just needed to talk to Keil. I’m okay.”

Shad grunted.

I turned my attention to Shad. “Excuse me? Can I help you?” I said, glaring at him as he slung his backpack over his back and looked like a model doing it.

I bit back my melody.

“Yeah, you can help me, but you know how, and I will be around when you're ready.” He nodded to Ryker, who looked confused, and then Shad walked inside his house.

“What was that about?”

“That—” I said while tugging on Ryker to follow me across the street “—is the problem that I am trying to solve.” I watched for traffic as we made our way across the street and onto my porch.

“He is weird, right? Never thought I would see the day when Prince Shadrict would be kinda cool.”

“He is not cool, Ryker. He is turning evil,” I said, turning to look at him.

“What? No, he isn’t; he’s just a Soulless—“
