“Ladies were not meant to fly,” I said softly, wondering if Peter could hear me.
“Ah, that may be true, but what of princesses?”
I turned in his arms to face him. What a question.
“I could not say—”
“Meria, for example, is a princess.”
“Yes.”
“So, could you see her learning to fly?”
I thought for a moment. Meria was brave and so different from anyone I had ever met.
“Yes, I could see her flying.”
“Good to know,” Peter said, looking at me with a smirk. “Princesses fly. I shall have to make you a princess fairly soon, then.”
“Peter!”
We were quiet for a few moments, my cheek resting against his chest. We’d have to go back to the others soon. The sunset was gone and stars dotted the sky. I looked up at him, and he was watching me.
“The stars are beautiful here,” I whispered.
He did not take his eyes off of me. “The most beautiful sight I have ever seen.”
“Peter!” I said with a laugh, touching his chest.
“When I lost you, I lost all the starlight in my sky.”
“Peter–”
“But with you here in my arms, I can do anything. You are every star in my sky, my moon and my sun.” Then his lips met mine, and I never knew more joy in my life.
Chapter Twenty-Six
Peter
Present Day
The last thing I wanted was to leave that place. Gwen was in my arms, and I didn’t want to go back to the others. If I had it my way, the deal I had made with the pixies would be null and void, we would all go back to Walden, and I would marry Gwen and never have to leave her side again.
It was still surprising because of my curse, but it had always been different with Gwen. Being away from her on that island was even more proof that my curse did not work with her.
She is the exception. My antidote.
It may have taken me a long time to realize that IlovedGwen, but we finally had each other, and that was what mattered.
We walked back to the others, hand-in-hand. I watched the glowing lagoon as we came closer and closer, but before we reached it, I tugged her behind a large tree.
“Gwen, before we go back and before we save these lost boys and the pixies, I just want you to know how much I love you and how excited I am to marry you.” I kissed her soundly, then ran on to the lagoon without her. I knew she would need a moment to understand her feelings.
“Peter! You cannot say that and then just run away!” she called after me.
I paused and waited for her. “Sorry, darling.”
“Took you long enough,” Dominick said, sitting on a rock beside the pool.
